Bath council defeats seven to fourteen charter plan
The Bath City Council rejected a proposal to reduce the council from 14 to 7 members by a 6-5 vote at the December meeting. The rest of the charter study report was forwarded to the Maine Legislature. The panel also backed a plan for a full time tax assessor and a three member Tax Assessment Review board. Council debated ward representation and referendum options before denying Leonard's call for a referendum and forwarding the matter to the Legislature for later action.

City Manager’s Report November 1954 Highlights
City reports November municipal activity across departments. Police logged 48 arrests and 175 miscellaneous investigations along with 18 non fatal motor vehicle accidents. Two probationary patrolmen added, bringing police strength to nine. Fire crews answered 12 alarms. Engine 2 gains two way radio, Seagrave repairs completed. Four building permits issued totaling $4200. Cemetery work included 11 burials at Oak Grove, three monument foundations, general site cleanup, and surveys by Wright & Pierce to assess cemetery area usability.

Benefit Show for Pinkham Family at Woolwich Grange Hall
The Pinkham family benefit stage show at Woolwich Grange Hall aims to be a mammoth event on Saturday evening December 11. Acts donated include Kit Totman and his banjo, Eddie Page, Crocker siblings, Jimmy Juliano, George Stimpson and most of the Maine Ramblers, with Lillian Donaco possibly appearing with Totman’s orchestra. Bath school board hires only NABC officials for season

The Lincoln County Orchestra led by Ernest P. Lippmann of Newcastle staged the third annual Christmas pops concert at Huse Memorial school auditorium to a full Bath crowd. Debutant James Keene of Damariscotta, 11, played Mozart Violin Concerto in G minor with mature handling, while Wynnefred Scott Shepard of Richmond sang Silent Night with off stage violin obligato by the conductor. The program featured ample Christmas classics and promising young talent.

Beatrice Main Receives Third Honor For Drawings
Beatrice Main of Washington Street, fifth grade at Dike School, earned a third consecutive honor for her drawings. She appeared Friday night on a Portland TV station honoring young artists in state wide comic drawing contests. Her March poster for Colonial Days won the Maine state prize from the Daughters of the American Revolution under the Junior American Citizenship project.

Plans for East Brunswick shopping center on Route 1
Bath contractor J H Miller Inc announced a $750000 shopping center to be built on Route 1 between Bath and Brunswick. The one story 600 by 125 foot center would host about 12 stores east of Cook's Corner on land from Mrs Constante Ring. Construction expected next spring.

Woolwich Man Celebrates 95th Birthday
John C. Preble, Day’s Ferry resident and Woolwich’s oldest man, marked his 95th birthday at his son Lemuel Preble’s home. He owns the Boston Post gold headed cane a prize heirloom given by the Asa Hathorne family and to pass to the town’s next oldest male citizen on his death. Born December 6, 1859 in Day’s Ferry, he lives with family in a long-held residence as a quiet celebration.
