Robert M. Silsby of Bath, once a cabin boy aboard the ship John R. Wesley and later keeper aboard the Cyrus Wakefield, endured perilous Cape Horn passages and wrecks. The Kelley sank after grounding near Port Stanley. Silsby later ran a Bath hotel and preserved the memory of those days.
An historic Harpswell farmhouse near Oakledge on the New Meadows river is remembered by summer visitors. The long standing building hosted many gatherings including moms parties and corn huskings as Oakledge grew as a vacation resort.
