Caroline Grover of Wiscasset, born September 1, 1839, will celebrate her 100th birthday with an open house from two to five at daughter Carrie McKenney’s Birch Point home. She owns the Boston Post cane and recalls Civil War era life, New York trip, and family history spanning seven children and six grandchildren.

Mrs Amory M Houghton Suffers Injuries
Mrs Amory M Houghton of 838 Washington Street fractured her left leg below the hip in a fall at home late Saturday night. She was taken to Brunswick Hospital. her condition was described as encouraging. Her son Amory M Houghton, operator of Spencer Sporting Camps at Moosehead Lake, flew to Bath by seaplane Monday after the accident. Randy Mulhern piloted him to Bath from Greenville, arriving in the same time as the takeoff. Capt C Wesley Farmer of Sailors' Snug Harbor is visiting his sister Mrs Malcolm Doble on Green Street.

Archie Higgins and his four year old son Arthur drowned at Westport last Tuesday while preparing to go lobstering. Higgins formerly worked at Bath Iron Works from Dec 8 1936 to Jan 28 1938 before dedicating his time to fishing. A brother in law, Lester Hodgdon, works in the Iron Works carpenters division.

Sidney Howard Killed by Tractor
Sidney Howard, 48, famed playwright formerly in Wiscasset and Bath through wife Clare Eames, died last Wednesday at his Tryingham summer home in Massachusetts when a tractor he was cranking up crushed him. Howard wrote Ned Mc Cobb's Daughter with a scene at Merrymeeting Bay and did not return to Wiscasset after Mrs. Howard's death. His second wife was Leopold Blaine Damrosch, daughter of the late U.S. Senator James G. Blaine of Maine. Rev E T French and wife at 77 Russell Street report their son Daniel, who had brain tumor surgery at Boston City Hospital, is recovering well.

Missing youngster found by Emmons near Middle and South streets
A two and a half year old boy who strayed from his home on upper Front street is reunited with his mother thanks to Edwin L. Emmons. He located the child near Middle and South streets and helped lead him home after checking with dwellings along the way. The mother, who reported the disappearance at police headquarters, cried with relief upon seeing her son. Clyde Higgins, Lewiston High School and University of Maine graduate, named County Agent for Washington county by the State Agricultural Department and will reside in Machias.

Streamlined bus to enter service here
Ed ward A Perkins of Pilgrim Chevrolet delivered the last word in bus construction a streamlined cab over engine model chassis to Bath Bus Service president Charles B Doyle on Aug 19. The new green and silver bus seats more than 20 passengers with wide seats and one aisle. It will be commissioned about Sept 1 and compares with modern urban models. Doyle operates five Chevrolets with three in bus service and two logging over 109000 miles each.

A 1939 Studebaker President sedan with New York plates, abandoned in Woolwich, was reportedly stolen in Halifax. New York authorities gave no further details as Patrolman Vitomp- son investigates.
