Tides and community life anchor Georgetown notes
High tides and a full moon framed a week of Georgetown activity. A houseboat ashore on Aug 13 was washed off Aug 21. Miss Maud Thayer hosted Kennebec Point ladies at the House of the Four Captains, sharing blueberry cake and stories of early region history. The gathering, with 11 attendees, included many local residents and extended to a beach picnic for Mary Wren’s 13th birthday. The piece lists numerous residents visiting, hosting, and socializing around Robinhood, Kennebec Point, Bath, and West Georgetown, with updates on hospital stays, travel to Portland, and guests from Portland, New York, and Massachusetts. Sgt. William Bisseth of the Tenth Mountain Division visits during furlough before reporting to Camp Dix. The narrative closes with reflections on local landmarks visited, mail from Pacific theater, and the hope of returning home after the war’s end.
