Local group plans to purchase the Pierce block to widen Front street with City of Bath contributing 10 000 for a deep land strip but the option remains near expiry and no new developments have emerged. If the sale fails, the building may stay and tenants would rent two stores, stalling civic hopes.
Charles Carroll writes that a $10 million private, utility company backed project aims to harness fusion power. He notes enormous technical hurdles including a container for 100 million degree elements and a timetable of five, ten, and five years for research, feasibility, and plant development.

Funeral services for Mrs Clara Brown widow of Harold J Brown were held August 21 at the First Baptist church with Rev Daniel Bliss officiating. Interment followed at Oak cemetery. Out of town attendees included Mayon and Mrs Dudley Allen of Leonia New Jersey. She came to the area in 1921 after marrying and settling at Kennebec Point. A longtime member and former president of the Georgetown Working League she was noted for cookery on church events and for directing Camp Overlook dining hall. She battled a long illness and died in her sleep.
Gramercy Ghost ends Lakewood Theatre 57th season with John Cecil Holm’s comedy starring Skedge Miller Martha Randall and Wayne Carson. Production runs week of September 2. The Broadway hit follows a publisher’s assistant haunted by a ghost of a Revolutionary War hero in a Gramercy Park apartment.
The Topsham change-service club and chapel will be ready for occupancy in December. The headquarters building, among the last to be completed, should receive final touches late in December. Roadway surfacing of two miles on the installation has begun by Romano Construction Co. and Northeast Paving Co. with asphalt final application expected within a week.
Five Islands notes a Baptist church business meeting on Thursday evening and plans to observe its 100th anniversary in October with the dedication of Gray auditorium. A baked bean supper will close this season. The issue also lists numerous personal visits and family notices from town residents.
The engagement of Miss Mary Anne Wright daughter of Lloyd Wright of Ashland to Samuel W Kittredge son of Mr and Mrs Frank C Kittredge is announced. Wright graduated from Gray’s business college in Portland and works for Retail Credit in Portland. Kittredge is a Navy veteran of four years and a second year student at Portland Junior College. No wedding date has been set.
Edward F. Cox of the Times staff spent the weekend in Bangor, enjoying a short休.
Agnes Daley Cutting 88 native of Phippsburg died Tuesday in a Foxboro Massachusetts hospital after a month as a patient. Widow of George Cutting she lived with daughter Mrs Russell Cook in Foxboro since 1931 and visited Phippsburg summers. She was active in Dromore Grange and survived by two daughters nieces and nephews. Funeral services planned in Foxboro and Oak Grove Friday.
Miss Bessie L Clark longtime Bath resident died Tuesday evening at Bath Memorial Hospital after years of poor health. She was daughter of the late John E Clark and Luecenda Jame son Clark and member of Beacon Street Methodist Church and Genesia Chapter OES. Survived by two sisters Mildred Clark and Sadie Harnden and brother Frank J Clark. Funeral Friday at 3 30 p m at A F Mayo Son funeral home with Rev Richard Arnold officiating. burial in Oak Grove family lot.
Funeral services were held for Ansel A Packard of Portland at Trinity Episcopal Church. Packard, 63, a prominent Mason and fourth highest Knights Templar officer, died Tuesday in Portland. A native of Brockton Massachusetts, he spent his early years in Belfast and graduated from the University of Maine.
A young girl took her father's car from Wiscasset about 11 p.m. and drove to Gardiner to find her mother. After failed stops by Gardiner officers on Bridge Street and Route 27, she fled toward Bath, evading pursuers as Bath and Gardiner units joined the chase along Route 1.
District Governor at Sedgwick presided as chairs of committees reported their plans for 1957-58. His wife was honored by wives of club leaders. Attorney Jean Marc Robergee is a Canadian Bar Association member. He will visit Belfast today, Kennebunk Thursday, and Sanford the next day. Members anticipate the governor's visit for personal contact and to learn Rotary International programs.
Mrs Emma Brady Robinson 62 of Bath died Wednesday August 21 in a Waltham Mass hospital after a long illness. Born December 24 1894 in Bath she was daughter of Captain Daniel Fraser. She married Thomas Brady in 1913 and after his death wed Edmund C Robinson who died five years ago. Survived by five sons Joseph Brady Thomas Brady Vincent Brady Arthur Brady Albert Brady a daughter Mary Kelley two stepsons Joseph and Edmund Robinson a stepdaughter Marie Richards two sisters Elizabeth Fraser Dinsmore Ada Fraser and brother Major W Fraser. Six grandchildren also noted.
Minnie A Waterman 62 wife of Percy R Waterman died Wednesday August 21 at Memorial hospital after a brief illness Born Roxbury Massachusetts 1895 she lived in West Bath 27 years She attended Winter Street Congregational church and West Bath grange for 25 years with a silver sheaf certificate She is survived by her husband one daughter Grace Waterman two sisters Florence Gray Maude Reid and George Durgin a brother and numerous nieces and nephews
Carmillo Puiia formerly of Bath died Friday evening at his Freeport shop aged 33. Born June 15 1924 in Bath to Antonio Puiia and the late Clara Kingsbury Puiia he moved to Freeport in 1943 after Bath schooling and Air Force service. He is survived by his wife Elsie Card of Durham, his father three sisters and four brothers including Antonio Jr Frank James William and many aunts.

Mrs. Fern Hosford 66 wife of Barh Hosford of Bath died suddenly Sunday morning while visiting friends in Albion. Born Bancroft she was daughter of Oliver and Shubal Kelley and has lived in the city for 18 years. Survived by four daughters Mrs Joseph Carroll Mrs Maurice Estabrophy Mrs Kenneth Russell all of Houston Mrs Dominic Dallessie Connecticut and one son Jasper Hosford Bath plus several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
