Central church team upset Beacon 19 to 13 to pull Beacon into a three way tie for second place. Red Reed starred with key late baskets as Central’s defense clamped down on Beacon’s offense and carried the crowd of about 400 to a thrilled victory.
Wesley cruised to a 27 to 16 win over Universalist securing a second place tie with Central and Beacon. Garnett led Universalist with strong center play while Wesley benefited from Burnen and Davis as anchors in a season promising tough battles. Corliss weakened by mismatch, Winter saw Hart and Colby lead scoring in a 53 19 Corliss victory.

John Seward Emmons aged 24 son of Seward E Emmons of Bath Georgetown region died in an automobile accident near Lima Ohio. He had worked in window dressing in Lima and was married to Blanche Goshen of Lewiston. a son was born days before his death.
The 1929 Portland Auto Show at the Exposition Building Jan 28 to Feb 2 will feature an aviation exhibit with Curtiss airboats suspended from the ceiling and a balcony display. The event includes a complete range of autos, trucks, tractors, motor boats, and accessories, plus lavish decor by Brown of Portland and new floor linoleum from England. Entertainment comes from Earle Hanson and Dick Lewis with performances by visiting artists from New York and Boston. Maine Central Railroad promotes excursion rates.
Preston Farrar of Park Alley bowling league nicknamed Poke has organized a five man team to face an outfit led by Les Plant. Plant is averaging above 190 in the league standings and the two teams are slated to clash this Saturday night.
Miss Bernce Carolyn Gilley is changing to Maurice Rainmond Deering in a Bath notice by her parents Mr and Mrs Arthur A Gilley of 26 Court Street. Deering, son of Mrs Harry G Deering of 606 Washington Street, has family links to the shipbuilding Deering Co. The betrothed couple are well known in Bath social circles with Deering a Bath Lodge member and Gilley an accomplished Morse High School graduate.
The arts and crafts department holds Dennison work and Italian hemstitching classes led by Miss Marjorie Smiley and Miss Marcela Moulton in the club room from 7 to 8 pm. Members may attend free. outsiders are not accommodated. Those joining must bring material and be at the rooms by seven. An exhibition of Dennison works is planned. The department committee includes Mrs. Jy. P. McPaddim, chairman, and members Mrs. Grewr Churchill, Miss Alice Johnson, Mrs. R. Christon McFadden, and Mrs. Frances Dunning.
The funeral service for Mrs Medora C Purington widow of Charles F Purington occurred Wednesday at 1 PM at 322 Washington Street with Rev Robert H Carey of Corliss Street Church officiating. The interment followed at Parker Head for Durual.
The Autumn bulletin of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy features sketches of two former Bath, Missouri natives, Frederick Henry Eames and William Morse Eames, both ’87 graduates. It traces their early education, pharmacy careers in Boston Somerville Manchester Nashua and Medford, and medical degrees from Bowdoin and Dartmouth.
More than 30 Bath citizens including Mayor Cahill and Pres George C Quicksall attended a legal affairs committee hearing on Representative Butler’s resolution to authorize the Governor and Council to convey Bath State Ferry property to Bath for public landing use. Proceedings noted no opposition and the committee took the matter under advisement.

Mahoney, noting milder cases are undercounted.
