Unique decision handed down by Judge Deering in Bath court
Judge Gardiner R. Deering in Bath Municipal Court discharged Theodosus Vamvakias founder of Ted's Diner while Frank Leighton was ordered to pay $7.70 in costs. Leighton had alleged assault and battery. Vamvakias was found not guilty after his attorney, Judge John J. Keegan, argued the case. West Point firefighters responded at 5 30 Friday morning to a woods fire on the Cushman property near a town road to West Point village. Residents suspect a discarded cigar sparked the blaze, while Parker Head fire near by continues to burn underground for over a week with 24 hour volunteer watch and intermittent flare ups.

The Bath Pant Co opened Monday in a three story building at Washington and School streets, last used by the Commercial Trading Co. J Emery Footer and Harold J Footer bought the building and equipment to start manufacturing pants and shirts. Herbert F Erwin becomes general superintendent. Mrs Pauline will lead 22 to 25 workers at the start. The plant runs 40 hours weekly from 7 am to 4 pm with a noon break, closed Saturdays.

Flames Destroy Dwelling of Loring Pushard on Middle Street
Fire of undetermined origin gutted the one and a half story dwelling of Loring O. Pushard at 158 Middle Street. Otis L. Pushard and neighbors fought back flames for about an hour as water lines from multiple engines were laid and interior furnishings destroyed. Bowdoinham woman grows extraordinary lemon tree in parlor
Mrs George Hackett of Bowdoinham nurtured a lemon tree since 1922. After years of care the plant blossomed in 1938 and produced a 1 pound 2 ounce lemon in 1939 and a larger fruit last summer. The tree now bears three lemons and a sprouting seedling stands a yard tall, with grapefruit and cotton plants nearby.
