Equity hearing in Deering case stalls receivership bid

In a lengthy equity hearing the Deering Co and Gardiner Deering's estates defend their management of ship assets arguing that losses at sea and a depressed market explain poor 1922 25 24 profits. They claim assets are invested safely aside from limited stakes in Boston Maritime and Merchants Marine. They contend the firm runs efficiently and the plaintiff delays reinvestment to seek receivership, asserting future demand recovery will enable profitable operations and the yard can pivot from schooner to other vessel building.
