Red Cross instruction class concludes with 25 graduates
The final Red Cross Instruction Course session led by Dr. Brice Atwood Newbaker of Philadelphia was held Friday at the Legion hall. Twenty five participants passed with 80 or higher. Instructors will receive cards from Washington for all but one who is too young. Names of graduates include Lynette Caverly Glenn Orrs Harold E. Cutting and others. A party followed with refreshments and remarks, and a permanent organization invitation for Sept. 7 at 10 Quimby street.

Barbecue Luncheon For Garden Club Heads At Summer Home

Hyde Windlass Co. held its third annual outing at Brown's field West Bath drawing about 220. The Hyde Windlass softball team beat a destroyer from the USS Sampson 10 to 8 in the feature event amid a noon clambake for attendees. Staff and committees were led by Edwin Ramsay with Safford and Cahoon among organizers. Miss Gladys and Sherbon Marshall of Concord NH visited over the weekend.

The robbers forced him to drive from Bath toward Brunswick and Freeport, took his pants, wallet, and a watch, then fled amid a description that linked them to the Paul Dwyer murder case. Police traced suspects to a Vine Street filling station, while Legard recalled a casual, chilling ride and the gunman warning, This is serious business.

Heat drives 300 Bath Iron Works workers to quit
About 300 employees at Bath Iron Works Corp. in the shipyard division were authorized to quit work Tuesday morning as temperatures neared 110 degrees in the sun. Riveters, chippers, caulkers, welders and ship fitters left or remained until noon while the shade temperatures reached 96. The heat stemmed from galvanized steel on destroyers under construction in the south yard.

Bath Bandits Confession Traces Long Flight From Bath
According to a confession, Alfred Labonte and Andrew Gallagher, both a Maine pair, fled in a stolen Packard from Bath on July 19. They rode taxis to Brunswick, rode freight to Dover and trains toward Boston, then Chicago and St. Louis before returning to Bangor and Bath. Gallagher was captured in Bangor. Labonte was later arrested on Hammond Street.
