War Department records show thousands of applications and about forty thousand candidates for citizen military training camps as of now. Dr George Merrill Kimball 72 a Concord financier and longtime resident died August 1 at his North Main Street home. Born June 17 1855 in Dardanelles Arkansas he trained at Phillips Academy Yale and Harvard Medical School and practiced in Concord for years retiring to focus on business interests. He served as trustee and president of New Hampshire Savings Bank and held leadership posts at Boscawen Mills New Hampshire Spinning Mills and Concord Mutual Fire Insurance. He was a director of several companies and clubs and served on local boards including the Board of Aldermen and Board of Education. He was survived by his wife Annie Louise Gage and their children Robert G Kimball of Boston and Louise M Kimball of Concord.
Mrs Ruth Burnham wife of George J Burnham of 6 Meadow Street Bath died Friday at City Hospital after months ill health. Born in Georgetown she was daughter of Eliott and Sarah Swett and lived in Bath 44 years. Survived by husband two sons Erving and George Burnham Bath. four daughters Mrs Leo Huff of Taconia Mrs Ralph Morrell of Gardiner Mrs Walter Leah of Chelsea Mass Miss Agnes Burnham of Bath. one brother Moses Swett of Brunswick. three sisters Mrs Fred Stilphen Mrs Tarman Orr and Mrs Sumner Tibbetts of Bath.
Admiral George C. Day called on Mrs. Lucy Hughes, mother of Admiral Charles F. Hughes, at her Bath home during a stop aboard the Trenton. Day, along with Rear Admiral Richard H. Leigh and Mrs. Leigh, planned a trip to Vermont and potential visits to Montreal and Quebec before returning.
Carroll F. Coffin, a Brunswick baseball star, wed Miss Beulah Mo White of Brunswick at eight Wednesday evening last week in the clergyman's home. Revo Powers of Topsham and Bruns wick team members had learned he would miss the Yarmouth trip but no reason was given.
A group of blueberry pickers gathered 65 quarts in nearby woods early this week. The party included B S Chirk and two sons who picked 30 quarts, Clarence Chirk of South Portland with Mrs Clark and son Junior who picked 20 quarts, and Edward McFarland of Auburn who gathered 15 quarts.
Julian Mason of the New York Evening Post has returned to Smal l Point from Camden where he stayed with Cyrus Curtis. He will speak before the Maine Press Association at Lakewood this week along with Governor Ralph O. Brewster and Cyrus I. K. Curtis of Curtis Publishing Co. and Dr John H. Finley of the New York Times.
An event of unusual interest occurred Sunday in Union as eight Cameron children and their families gathered from Philadelphia, Honelutu, Canal Zone and other places for a long-awaited reunion at Mr and Mrs James Cameron's home. It marked the first time the entire family has been together for 35 years, reflecting how widely the clan has dispersed.

The Parker Head community held its annual picnic at Tlerseshoe beach. About 150 attendees arrived by carriages and hayracks. After a morning of beach games and swimming, a chowder lunch was served by committee chair Charles Rollins. More than 40 members of the Portland Lions Club arrived at Sebasco Estates by automobile for their annual outing. They enjoyed a light lunch, field sports, tennis, and golf. Some fished from the rocks while later a shore dinner was served at the clubhouse. The group planned to return to Portland by moonlight after a highly enjoyable day.
John Smith a 32 year old Milford Connecticut bridgeman on the west tower of the Kennebec bridge suffered a compound fracture of the right leg when a cable fell Friday morning Foreman C W Leatherman assisted him Smith was brought down by a derrick and taken aboard the Islesford to City hospital His injuries though painful are not considered serious and may keep him in hospital for several weeks
Mrs. Douglas Buchanan announces the marriage of Ruth Marion to Daniel Leonard Doherty in New London Connecticut on Wednesday August 10. Ruth Marion is a Morse High School and Bryant & Stratton alumna who has worked in Augusta internal revenue, while Daniel is a Concord High School graduate employed by SS Kresee Co in Detroit. The couple will reside in New London for the time being.
Mrs Lotta Eaton and her daughter Ernestine of Chestnut Street are spending a week at a Larrabee cottage in the grove on the New Meadows.
Dr. Forest H. Rogers, 28, died suddenly Friday morning in Waterbury Connecticut of a throat infection after returning from a military camp in Niantic. He was born in Bath and educated at Bowdoin Yale and Maine Medical School, married Florence Pairlee in 1926, survived by parents and brother. The article also notes a Waterbury court ruling on a split sentence in a Kennebec County habeas corpus case, declaring such suspensions illegal and stating the legislature must authorize any such powers.
Eugene E. Searles, longtime Eastern Steamship steward, died of pneumonia at 10 Cliff Street Roxbury on Ave 7. He was buried at Mt Hope Cemetery Boston after services at his home attended by steamship colleagues and officers. His son Arthur returned from a sea voyage for the funeral. Searles had earlier worked for the Kennebec Line before its absorption and served on the Governor Dingley on the St John run. He recently served as assistant port steward. He belonged to Bath and Boston Lodges and flags on Eastern Steamship Lines were half mast in tribute.
Mabel Irene Lewis aged 37 wife of Ralph Lewis of 15 Shaw Street Bath died Saturday afternoon at City Hospital after a three month illness. Born in Portland she was a daughter of Mr and Mrs James Curran and had lived in Bath eleven years since marriage. Survived by husband two daughters Luella and Gwendolyn and son Stanley Lewis four sisters Mrs Alton Lewis Bath Mrs Charles Shadie Rockland Mrs Charles Smart and Mrs George Bennett Portland.
The body of Tarry C Robinson a marine fireman who died last Wednesday from injuries in an automobile crash on the Brunswick road was sent Saturday to his mother Mrs James Robinson Bucksport for funeral and burial. His wife who was with him and is a City hospital patient is reported improving.
Malcolm T. Doble Maine squad leader United States internal revenue department and Mrs. Doble drove 287 miles Thursday to Milo to attend the funeral of Dr. James McFadyden a former classmate who served as a major in the medical corps during World War I.

Her husband Mr Reyher recently returned from Mexico City to New York while she travels in Denver gathering party work. The Eastern Aberdeen Angus Association will run two standard Pullman dining cars at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield from September 18 to 28. All menu items will come from Eastern territory, featuring Aberdeen Angus beef, New England dairy products, Pennsylvania wheat bread, Connecticut Valley onions, Maine potatoes, and Western Massachusetts vegetables. Meals run 11 am to 8 pm daily, aiming to feed 1,000 per day, with a la carte service eliminated and menus standardized and rotated daily under Rupert Jahrling’s supervision.
The Knox county Three Quarter Century Club held a Saturday gathering at Oakland Tark. More than 100 members and guests attended from across the county, many arriving by car with some horse drawn vehicles on display. The event was celebrated as a high old time by the elderly attendees.
