Lobster Propagation Program Ends With Major Release
Commissioner Arthur R. Greenleaf said the 1945 lobster propagation program closed with 50,000 fourth stage lobsters released at Lubec after wardens moved them from the Boothbay Harbor hatchery. The total fourth-stage lobsters liberated in Maine waters in 1945 surpassed four hundred thousand, though slightly under 1944’s total due to manpower and material shortages. He noted a future Lamoine hatchery could more than double releases and is delayed by pump and plumbing material shortages.
