Man Found Dead in Parked Auto in Randolph
Donald B. Grant 42 of Randolph was found dead in a car on Commercial Street near the Maine Central freight office. Dr. Joseph I. Smith ruled death from natural causes. Grant, a shipyard employee, left on a pass and was discovered by Cecil Tibbetts as fellow commuters finished work. He was married with a Boston-based daughter and lived in Randolph with his parents. The body was moved from the police station to Mayo’s ambulance and funeral residence.

Lewiston Man Wounded in Italy Returns Home to Recovery
Carl Poult of Lewiston, noted for years as a Bath daily visitor to Lewiston cleansing concern, was wounded in action in Italy and sent back to the United States. He was a patient at a California hospital and friends hope for his safe return home.

Open House Day at Bath Hospital draws 150 guests

Ninety Firemen Attend Training School on Sunday
Ninety firemen from the Path Fire Department, Ballyutor Works, Lambert Park and surrounding communities attended the session at Bath Iron Works plant. The event, part of Maine fire service training under Civilian Defense, drew over 600 total attendees to date. Demonstrations covered ventilation, salvage, ladder and hose work with talks by Chief Curtis Allen and Lt. James Cowan. A public relations talk warned Fire Prevention Is Everybody's Business. A lobster stew lunch followed. Bath Iron Works officials were praised for their hospitality.

Youngest Sagadahoc Soldier Nears Homecoming
Pfc. Robert E. Hart of Sagadahoc county, possibly the youngest local serviceman, is expected home this week after nearly two years in the South Pacific. He enlisted at 16 in 1941 with parental consent, trained at Camp Blanding, served at Camp Croft when war was declared, then shipped overseas January 1, 1942 and spent three months in New Caledonia before hospital treatment in San Francisco. His brother Andrew J. Hart, 20, Navy enlistee from Morse high, served in the South Pacific and learned of Robert’s location within 100 miles of him shortly after Christmas.
