Teachers protest pay raise shortfall before City Council
Bath educators voiced dissatisfaction at a Wednesday special session as the Council approved a 200 annual pay boost instead of the requested 360. Nathan W. Watson led the group noting Charter constraints and an emergency fund limit. Margaret Flaherty defended the figure and compared teacher raises to other city employees. The meeting also touched on Fire Department chief vehicle choices and awaited Chief Frates input.

Portland man fined in Bath for digging bloodworms
Joseph Johnson of Portland paid 10 dollars and 4.70 in costs after pleading guilty in Bath municipal court to digging bloodworms in Georgetown without a license. A Freeport man missed his Wednesday appearance on a similar charge as Sea and Shore Fisheries patrols crack down on diggers from Portland and nearby communities. The worms, used as bait by charter and excursion boats from Massachusetts to Florida, fetch a cent or more each for bloodworms and slightly less for sand worms. Many towns require licenses for worm digging, and noncompliance drives the cases to court.
