Early Morning Freight Damages Siding and Equipment

A box car from the early morning Bath freight failed to stop and crashed into the siding bumper near the Mulligan Co yard on Commercial Street. The impact tore the wheel truck from the car and pushed it a short distance, while the car swerved toward the river, sparing the Mulligan offices and most equipment. No other injuries are reported.

Nurses Keep Calm As Fire Breaks At City Hospital

At Patriots’ Day morning fire in the old hospital building, four nurses acted swiftly to protect patients. Madelyn Footer alerted staff and janitor Mr Putnam, Dorothy Huggard crawled to extinguish the blaze with a hose, Gertrude Thurvey handed her a extinguisher, and Alice Justison occupied patients with calm talk.
