Bath's Board of Education voted to create a 12 member committee to study and propose a teacher evaluation plan that could lead to a new salary schedule reflecting teaching quality. Members will be drawn from high school to primary levels, with four seats from civic groups. The plan aims for a thorough year long study of existing systems before board review. CMP Completes Move To New Building On Route 1
Central Maine Power completes consolidation of Bath and Brunswick service facilities in a single new building between the two towns. The move unifies line, appliance service, meter, warehousing and accounting, with offices still at 139 Maine Street Brunswick and 79 Front Street Bath. An open house is planned in spring.

Bath Area Chamber of Commerce executive secretary Richard M. MacLennan received a letter from Rear Adm. J A Snackenberg stating the Nautilus will not visit Bath in August for the 450th shipbuilding anniversary. The submarine returns to base for maintenance after an extended deployment and will be unavailable for the celebration. Bath Memorial hospital auxiliary held a business meeting led by Mrs. Bowen Torrey with monthly reports from officers. The Cozy Corner volunteer group logged 45 hours, Buck joined the staff, new members Thomp son and Lorentsen were welcomed, and purchases for the hospital were approved. The sewing group produced 256 items by 40 volunteers, the clearing house seeks more help, and plans for the Hospital Fair and Florence Nightingale tea were announced for May 16. A Saturday Board of Inquiry investigated the Friday Neptune patrol bomber crash at Brunswick Naval Air Station. Cmdr J Be Vroom led the probe. Among the six dead was AM1 James I. Waggoner of Portland then Bath residence at 11 Central Avenue Hyde Park. The pilot Lt James D. Hovis, 25, resided in Brunswick.
