Raid at shoe factory yields arrests and bail failures
Deputy Sheriff Patterson raided a shoe factory last week and seized a barrel of beer from a saloon run by Plummer Lewis. Lewis faced a hearing before C. E. Knight, was unable to post 500 dollars bail, and was committed. A warrant for William B. Taylor, owner of an unlicensed billiard saloon, set bail at 250 dollars. Taylor waived examination and was held for the grand jury. A third warrant targeted C. E. Rines, saloon keeper in the Knight building on Main Street, but he was not found. Work on Cow Island to Clark's Point, halted in December, has resumed.
