Boy Wounded by Bullet in Lewiston Woods
Mystery surrounds an accidental shooting of 12 year old John Nelson in Lewiston as he was with three companions in the woods near Rose street and High street. The youth was struck in the left shoulder area by a stray bullet from a .22 rifle while a .22 rifle and a shotgun were nearby. Police and patrolmen investigated and say a new angle may bring charges against one of the companions. Nelson is recovering at Memorial hospital. Names include Ralph Nelson, 32 Hammond street. Albert Nelson, 15. Eugene Dauphin, 16. John Smith, 468 High street. The shooting occurred near the Smith home.

Thousands packed the Bath yard as the U 8 8S Sims, a 1570-ton first line destroyer, slid from the ways shortly after four pm. Bath Hosts Biggest Armistice Day Parade Since 1918
Thousands line a four mile Bath parade for Army Day and the launch of the U S 8 S Sims destroyer at Bath Iron Works. The event features the Harold T Andrews Post Junior Drum and Bugle Corps, 330 Fifth Infantry soldiers, Coast Guard detail, and a massed color guard from many American Legion and VFW posts. Led by Lt. Col. J. M. Moore and Col. Hubert W. Eldred, the march also honors Edwin L. Emmons the noted drum major as Bath’s city crowds watch the shipyard launch and salute Gov. Lewis O. Barrows.

Actg General James W Hanson announced the retirement of Lieut Col Henry W Owen Jr of Bath member of the 240th Coastal Artillery with the rank of colonel. Owen enlisted in the Maine National Guard in 1912 and served in World War I and the coastal defense forces through his career.

John C Fitzgerald, Maine administrator of W P A and former Bath resident, received the February Safety trophy from the Public Works Administration for the greatest improvement in safety records. The trophy features five bronze columns topped with eagles on an ebony base. Maine posted a total score of 875.25, with Delaware 817.19 and District of Columbia 807.55. Marcia Stinson of Portland and Woolwich, ill with pneumonia, has recovered enough to return home from Maine General Hospital.
