The Maine State Guard combat engineers Co. E invites all males 16 to 65 to attend drill at the Bath Armory on Lincoln Street Monday at seven. The unit, formed in 1941, has historical ties to Col. Hubert W. Eldred and local industry leaders, and recently became fully equipped with rifles, machine guns, and uniforms. Soldiers gain military training and service to the nation in a unit with a storied past and strong local support.

Teen age canteen for Bath young folks a success
In wartime Bath parents and teens formed the Youth Canteen meeting Fridays at the Community hall. It grew beyond Lambert Park, serves ages 13 to 19, with teen run governance and adult advisors. Members fundraise, plan socials, dances, and a minstrel show. Activities include softball, baseball, kite flying, tennis, and swimming pool use.

In an old safe, Ralph G Stetson uncovered a military pass dated December 18 1862 issued to his grandfather Lt Alfred D Stetson of Bath founder of A D Stetson and Son furniture. The pass allowed entry to Washington DC and return and was signed by officers of Head quarters Co 1st Brigade Casey's division.

Will Reopen Barber Shop At Washington Street
Clarence Dube of 18 Huse street plans to reopen and run the barber shop at 1337 Washington street long operated by the late Ernest G Heald. Dube brings years of barbering experience from Brunswick and Brann's shop in College Town and expects to open on or about May 1. He is a World War II Navy veteran who served on the USS Hancock until a medical discharge in May last year.

Firemen led by Assistant Chief William F Parks and Arthur D Brown saved Mrs Mary Womack and three year old Anita Scribner from a smoke filled Bath Maine home shortly after 3 am Friday. Mrs Womack is recovering at Memorial hospital. Anita Scribner at Bath hospital in not serious condition. Flaherty family residents escaped via roof and ladder as fire, likely starting in the kitchen, damaged first floor and forced evacuation.
