Trustees Meet Approve Minutes and Wage Town Work

The board met with all members present and approved minutes. The marshal reported removal of slot machines and benches, hydrant and cistern repairs, and bond payment to Hatesville bank. A liquor license for Benjamin Bertram was granted for one year.

Memorial Service at St Clair’s hall impresses crowd

A Memorial Service at St Clair’s hall last Sunday evening drew a large audience. Rev Thompson’s sermon from Paul’s words on bearing marks of Christ was well received despite a threatening storm that prompted some to leave early. The service opened with a choir under Chas Wesler, prayers by Rev Steding, and benediction by Rev Holzapfel. C S Ward was master of ceremonies.

Barbers Organize New Union Prices Set

The Barbers' Union of Batesville and Oldenburg organized and announced a new price schedule effective Saturday June 1 1907. Items include shave hair cut beard trim shampoo massage hot towels and more with Saturday special prices. Local notices mention visits by Kramer Ehrbacher Siefert and others plus sales on clothing and lawn equipment at area stores.

Widening of Main Street Fund Raised by Town Trustees

At a special meeting Batesville trustees accepted a petition from property owners pledging 500 to widen Main Street from Catherine to the Brookville and Napoleon road with damages covered. Names and amounts listed. The board will act again at the next meeting. Also notes local visits and moves related to street work and residents.

Bakery Fire In Batesville Doused Quickly

Greemann Bros. whistle and fire bell alerted Batesville Fire Company and citizens who responded to a blaze in the Joseph Luesse bakery building occupied by Adam Fehlinger. The oven crack caused the fire, which spread to the roof but was controlled with minor roof damage and little disruption to the baker at work.

Hillenbrand Co Purchases Bedunnah Interest in Dry Ridge Mill

John A. Hillenbrand and Frank Bedunnah closed a deal Monday in which Hillenbrand Co bought all Bedunnah’s share in the Dry Ridge saw mill joint venture. Will Webster departed to take possession of the will at Dry Ridge. Bedunnah will relocate to Mississippi to run a jointly owned mill with Hillenbrand Co.

Oberting Party Enjoys Weekend Fishing at Fair Ground Canal

Victor Oberting and party traveled from Lawrenceburg Saturday evening to fish in the fair ground canal. They caught many large fish, some fried that night and shared by townspeople. Mrs Oberting joined them Sunday morning and all returned home Sunday evening satisfied with the outing.

Mrs Greemann builds new livery barn for sons Monroe and Clarence

Mrs. W T Greemann plans a new livery barn on Park avenue for her sons Monroe and Clarence. A Greensburg firm moved the old barn from the avenue end to the lot, to be incorporated into the east end of the new structure.

Boy Finds Home After Lost Child Returns to Grandfather

Nine year old boy from Indianapolis separated from mother and father on a Greensburg to Batesville journey. Trustees Krieger and local residents traced him to Greensburg then Indianapolis police, finally reuniting him with his grandfather George Robinson in Batesville. The episode ends with relief as the boy is safely cared for and returned home.
