A green bicycle painted red on the fork bar was stolen from Gus Bloemer's place last Saturday night. The thief is urged to return it and the finder will receive a reward from Ed Fritsch. This marks Ed's second wheel loss, the first occurring last summer.

At the Monday night town board meeting Harry Rebel was selected town marshal after Fred Acker Pohl resigned. Other candidates were Henry Obermeyer Chas Crowell and Chas Siefert. The town hopes Rebel improves streets and enforces the law impartially.
Decoration services are to be held next Thursday May 30 at the Luth eran cemetery in Huntersville with the local post of G A R in charge. Francis M Thompson of Versailles will deliver the address. The piece urges Batesville residents to better observe Decoration Day to honor Union soldiers, noting veterans of the sixties fade away and urging all ages to remember their sacrifice.

The Batesville town board met with all members present and accepted the prior minutes. The clerk reported collecting the first liquor license installment from August Bloemer. A town hall inspection found brick walls cracked a weak roof trusses and a rotted bell beam, deeming the building unsafe for public meetings. The clerk was ordered to buy light rubble stone from Big Four Stone Co. A franchise request to erect poles for Decatur County Independent Telephone Co. and Batesville Telephone Co. was tabled. Marshal candidates listed with Harry Rebel elected on first ballot and sworn in. Jake Engel granted a one year town liquor license. Final action on the town hall to be taken June 12.

Aug Hackman and Ben Lemmermohle travel to Cincinnati Greensburg. Joseph Wirtz visited relatives from Cincinnati. Brummers machine shop offers repairs. John S Benham and Henry King came from Osgood. Otto A Schneider's remains shipped from Chicago to Peppertown for burial. Camp M W A invites members to Decoration Day with G A R. special meeting Friday at 7 30 p m.
The St Johns Young People s Society plans an ice cream social at the Huntersville school house on Ascension day June 1 with amusements on grounds in the afternoon and evening. Everyone is invited. The Enterprise Casket Company hires George Holtel to build a new 42 by 60 foot three story addition with a bridge linking the second floors, on Pearl street at the Pearl and Walnut corner, to improve business and appearance as work begins.
Burney Wolfe a brake man on a gravel train was crushed between cars at Valley Junction at 7:30 am. He died in a Cincinnati hospital at 12:30 pm. His father Fred Wolfe of Newpoint witnessed the death. Funeral planned for Newpoint Saturday at 2 pm. He was about 21 years old and well liked by family and friends.
Batesville Reserves routed the Morris Orioles 9 to 1 at Morris Sunday afternoon. Benz pitched effectively and could have closed out a shutout before miscues in the fourth inning. Oelrich held until the eighth, but Batesville chased him for six runs in the eighth and ninth. Schroeder umpired and pleased both sides.
The baseball season opens next Sunday with the Reserves facing the Aurora Krebs. Local fans will see the new team in action at the city field with an anticipated large crowd. Admission is 15 cents. First pitch at three o clock.
John Borchett and family learned that John Meyerose was accidentally killed near Sunman. A runaway wagon overturned during a Manchester to Suoman haul, burying Meyerose and breaking his legs. He died about five hours later. Remains to be moved to Sunman for 1 o’clock burial at St. John’s Cemetery.
