Fred Gobs is down sick. Walsman offers mole traps and sewing machines with a five year warranty for 13 dollars. John Kern moves to Dane Indiana. Joe Cook buys George Hos tel building for 1600 dollars. Joe Schork plans a future home in Johnson building. Cal Otting visits Cincinnati to see his brother and Alice Greeman travels to Cincinnati to see her sister Bertha. A Mr Kuntz of Cincinnati buys horses locally and ships a carload to the Queen City.
A Saturday night fire destroyed Pete Benz's livery stable in Indianapolis where he owned a half interest. Twenty horses forty rigs and all feed and barns were lost with only an old, low value rig saved. The blaze endangered nearby barns and lives but no injuries are noted. The loss hits Benz hard.
The executor of Maria E. Havekotte's estate gives notice of a public sale at 2 p m on March 20 1902 in Batesville Indiana. The property in Middletown and Ripley County comprises about two acres and is described by sections and townships with a two thirds minimum of appraised value required for court approval. G W Gelvin is attorney for the executor.
Local ads note fresh oysters at Engel's daily and fish during Lent at Wessel's. Nick Blank's offers fish and various Lenten goods, with new lines of confirmation goods, white goods, laces, and embroideries. Also reports births, travels, and community notices from Batesville and nearby towns.
Smoke Square Diehlic cigar and new line of hats at P Bosse and Co. Walsman offering steel cut nails at 3 cents a pound. Several Batesville residents travel to Cincinnati for errands and work. WANTED Boys at Western Furniture Co good wages. Mrs Hackmann and relatives attend funeral in Cincinnati. Miss Nieman and daughter visit Washingtons Birthday event in Sunman.
The piece warns about frequent postage errors such as weighing packages and using incorrect rates. It explains that all written matter pays two cents per ounce and that sealed letters and packages are charged two cents per ounce, with postmasters allowed to open unsealed items on suspicion.
On Saturday night sixty two relatives and friends gathered at her home to give a birthday surprise. An abundance of palatable refreshments and a pleasant social time followed.
Mrs Henry Richmond of Ballstown died at home on Sunday March 2 1902 after a long illness of consumption. She rose Saturday for a hearty dinner and supper but did not wake Sunday morning and was found dead in bed about 10 o clock. Burial followed at Cross Roads on Tuesday afternoon.
The writer notes being urged to take a side in a public question for the Tribune column but refuses under pressure to back down and do the opposite of what was condemned. The stance is taken not from respect for the urging party but from concern about how print would appear.
A two o clock Tuesday morning blaze at Hillen brand Mitchell Co wood splitting works in Morris destroyed the building and ruined machinery though the engine may be repaired. Timber and cord wood were scorched, fourteen workers lost their jobs, and losses are estimated around 1500 dollars with origin unclear.

There is unprecedented demand for dwelling houses in Batesville with at least twenty families and likely more seeking rental homes at fair prices if houses were available.
The Wesley Mertional Epworth League drafts resolutions mourning Ida Heton name appears with committee members Cleo Starks Ona Givan Stella Hbidt. It extends sympathy to her family and pledges to emulate her qualities and publish the resolutions in the Tribune.
A note lists Smoke Shorts Pride of Cuba English clover seed available at Walsman’s. Various town residents travel for business and pleasure including Henry Behrman visiting Indianapolis, Ed Bruening to Cincinnati, and Harry Hartman from Cincinnati in Batesville. A large line of spring dress goods and trimming is advertised alongside Koepfle Bros cement sales and P Boerstler bicycle supplies. Elizabeth Stratemeyer returns to Cincinnati after a three month visit. Westerman from Shelbyville attends funeral of Mrs. Richmond before returning home.
The letters addressed to Ellis Ewing Joe Luggs and D McCallum will be sent to the dead letter office in Washington DC if not collected by March 3 1902.
The passage advises using Chamberlain's Cough Remedy as directed to cure grip and prevent pneumonia. It claims a large number of users have recovered with no reports of failure, attributed to G. A. Baas.
About seventy five members of St Johns Huntersville and visiting clergy gathered at Rev Ernst von Hahmann Arning’s home to mark the 29th birthday of the minister and his wife. The congregation presented gifts including a sewing machine center table chairs and a dinner set. Supper followed a sumptuous meal.
Scouring done by Mehlen the tailor. Howard Starks laid up with the grip. John Landel went to Cincinnati. Dr Campbell made his usual trip to Sunman last Thursday. John Waldkotter of Indianapolis visited his mother here Sunday. Lizzie Reidenbach left for Shelbyville Tuesday evening. Second-hand buggy and harness for sale by Chas Diehl. Mrs John Borchett went to Indianapolis to visit relatives. Mollie Seward from Clifton Heights Ky visiting W E Moore and wife. Improve property with a cement walk. Keepfle Bros. will lay it out and give estimates. Galen Oderkirk publisher of the Tri-County Greeting visited the town. He called at the Tribune office.
Hilda Dietz, 11 months old, daughter of Louis Dietz and his wife, died Wednesday morning after a bronchitis illness. She had been improving briefly before heart failure caused her death. The funeral is set for Friday morning at the Catholic church.
