Scenes from the play Ben Hur will be produced at St Clair’s opera house on Friday evening March 3 under the auspices of the Young Ladies Society of St Ludwig’s church. A descriptive lecture will detail the scenes. Admission prices are 10 20 and 30 cents.
There will be a meeting of Batesville business men on Thursday night March 9 at 7 30 p m at the town hall to discuss building a flour mill. The call invites all local business people to attend and pushes the idea that a grist mill attracts farm customers and benefits proprietors and residents.

The Batesville High annual entertainment will be held at St Clair's opera house on March 23 and 25. A thrilling drama titled A Celebrated Case will be presented each night to raise funds for the public school library. Reserved seats go on sale at Baas Schultz's drug store after March 10.
At the town board meeting on Monday night the board unanimously approved accepting a ten thousand dollar gift from Andrew Carnegie to build a public library in Batesville. The action is described as a progressive move and the library, to be named a Carnegie Library, is expected to be erected this summer.
The event will be held at St Clair Hall on Tuesday night March 7 with Batesville orchestra providing music. Refreshments will be served and admission is 50 cents with dancing free. One fare plus 25 cents to Washington D C return via Big Four for Roosevelt inauguration. Ticket sale dates March 1 2 3 return limit March 7 with ten day extension possible by fee. The Rev Arthur E Gringel is to preach at St Mark s church next Sunday in morning and evening. He delivered his farewell sermon at Nenia Ohio last Sunday. The congregation passed resolutions praising his work and deploring his departure, commending him to his new field.
John Henry Miller aged 77 years 7 months 15 days died Tuesday morning February 28 at 11 o clock at his residence near New Pennington from injuries after a fall on the ice en route to the barn. He leaves a wife and several grown children. Funeral set for Friday afternoon at Cross roads.

Anthony Schneider and his wife narrowly escaped injury when a westbound fast mail train struck their spring wagon on the tracks in Sunman Indiana. The collision hurled both horses into Joe Meister's yard, tearing out a bell post and killing the animals, though the couple escaped unharmed.

The Batesville council approved a resolution accepting Andrew Carnegie’s $10,000 gift on the condition of a free library funded at not less than $1,000 yearly, plus site provision and a tax levy to meet obligations. A committee will visit Greensburg to inspect the library. other actions include sewer extension permit, night police petition tabled, and various bills approved.
