Oldest Ripley County Resident Mary Jane Houghton Dies at 108
Mary Jane Houghton died early Friday at age 108 in Ripley County. She was born in Western Virginia in 1817 and lived with her daughter Mrs Mary Jane Gregory in the city for four years. Surviving are four sons and seventeen grandchildren with twenty great grandchildren. Services were held at her daughter’s home and burial followed in Liberty Indiana.

Details of Death Learned From France in 1918 Diary
Kenneth Diver, aged son of John Diver and wife, was killed April 28 1918 by a high explosive shell while resting with a companion in a dugout near Paris. Kenneth’s companion was badly wounded. The burial was in military order with a chaplain officiating, about twenty miles from Paris. Will Robinson visited the grave in May and left flowers and a cross. The article notes Kenneth is not dead but sleeping.
