Ripley County residents are urged to renew Red Cross memberships and elect officers for terms expiring October 23 1918. Branches and auxiliaries will hold elections June 16 to June 23 1918 to appoint chairmen secretaries and treasurers with officers serving until October 23. Members are advised to extend memberships to January 1 1919 to avoid overlapping term dates and ensure uniform expiration nationwide. Clarence H. Andres and Neil D. McCallum chair and secretary call every member to participate and support funds for the war effort.

Entertaining Grand Officers Energizes Batesville Lodge Visit
Gustav Adolph Lodge No 7 hosted William Crozier Joseph Kildare and Joseph Davis grand officers of Pennsylvania at West Pearl Street. They arrived by rail met by George Johanning toured Batesville and met members. The session included initiatory work talks reviews of lodge progress and a post meeting social with Hooverized refreshments. The visitors praised the lodge and promised future cooperation. City pride and wartime patriotism colored the evening as plans to meet again were voiced.

Attorney A B Wycoff and Captain Allen Sykes led a Versailles meeting to organize a Liberty Guards company. Carroll Schwier was named captain with Floyd Marsh and Faye Winsor as lieutenants. Ripley County reports a weekly War Savings Stamps total of 77 206.61 toward a 48 630 weekly quota, lifting cumulative sales to about 179 846.25 and per capita to 9.24, ranking sixth among 92 counties. The appeal urges pledges by June 28 totaling 389 040 countywide, with remaining demand of about 209 000 to meet the national two billion dollar issue.

Long illness ends for Mrs Henry Klostermeyer. She died at Madison hospital after years of treatment. The Red Cross thanks Miss Mildred Nickel Sunday School class for 1.50, Loyal Patriots of America for 2.60, Liberty Bells for 25.00, St Louis Music Class for 101.25, St Mark's Luther League for 42.45, and Women’s Registration Board for 59.00 raised after a registration fee was waived. The dime refunds were offered but none claimed.

Oldenburg Boy Dies in France Honored War Hero
In a special Oldenburg report the community mourns Bernard Hurst age twenty two who died of mortal wounds in France after enlisting in April last year. He is the first Franklin County man to give his life for liberty and his family and town honor his sacrifice with a requiem high mass at Holy Family Church. His mother three sisters and five brothers mourn while another brother serves with the colors.

German Alien Women Must Register This Month
Postmasters nationwide are to serve as Assistant Registrars from June 17 to June 26 to register German Alien Females. The process mirrors last February for males and requires four photographs per woman. Local figures show 30 to 40 German Alien Men registered previously by Postmaster Volz.

Ex Sheriff Henry Voss Dies By Suicide Near Milan
Friends and relatives mourn ex sheriff Henry Voss of Ripley County after he shot himself at his home southwest of Milan early Tuesday. He had been in ill health, and concern over his condition is believed to have influenced the tragedy. Voss was a well known public figure with many county ties.

Parochial School Exercises Planned at St Clair's Hall
