Tacoma Conference Urges Suspension of Section 28
A Tacoma meeting called by Senator Wesley J. Jones urged suspending section 28 of the merchant marine act until enough American tonnage exists on the Pacific coast, with six months notice before enforcement. Jones pressed for cooperation to build a robust American merchant marine and warned against delaying shipping with foreign control. He argued the law serves Americans, not foreign shippers, and stressed the Pacific coast as key to future American trade. The piece also notes biographical details of J Colgan and obituary mentions of Rogers family in Lander and Greybull.
