Chamber of Commerce members approved plans for a new rest room at the camp grounds with an estimated cost around 2500 dollars. The facility would also serve as a community center for meetings and dances during off tourist seasons and feature exhibits of regional resources. The board authorized securing funds and pursuing plans alongside park and playground initiatives.
Washington notes that Clyde W. Atherly of Basin is nominated as Wyoming surveyor general. He is a licensed surveyor, a civil engineer, and an expert draftsman with broad technical training. The appointment marks a shift from earlier, less complete qualifications.
C. F. Renner recently lost 150 sheep, killed on the railroad south of town a few miles, according to local reports.

E G Lewis Oil Co drilled into the Embar in Alkali dome 18 miles northwest of Greybull. Reports say the hole is ten feet in sand with 1500 feet of water and oil shows but total yield undecided until underreaming and water shutoff. Pipe was moved to site and efforts to reach Tensleep formation continue. Windmill and associates report a dry hole on Prescott lease. James D Finch of Reno and Reno Wyo Oil Co representatives arrived to review interests. stockholders toured Kirby area as drilling plans grow.
Worland routed the local team 31 to 0 in the conference game played last Friday afternoon in Worland. The visitors dominated with superior weight and knowledge, but the local squad showed effort. Basin spectators traveled in large groups, praising Worland hosts and hoping for improved teamwork in the coming weeks.
Federal land bank appraiser F C Howard from Douglas spent the past week evaluating land for loan applications in this area. About $140 000 in loans were examined and he plans to return soon. A new ruling will have applications passed by the local board before referral to the Omaha land bank and then to the appraiser.
Hyattville residents are invited to a four dance event in the town tomorrow night. A general invitation emphasizes community participation and forewarns attendees to be ready for the evening's program.
Reports say a new group named the Independent Oil Men's Association is forming in Wyoming to challenge Standard Oil and Midwest Oil pricing. It aims to end alleged discrimination in crude prices and may seek state legislative changes or political leverage, with Cheyenne as a likely meeting site to finalize plans.
A large winter social event at the library featured Mrs R L Silver and Mr S Armstrong as hostesses. Mrs Warner and Mrs Durham were honored guests at a social with Japanese colored refreshments. Hostesses included Misses Helen West Marion Bishop Katherine Extra and Elizabeth Wilson. On Friday Mrs E F Peterson entertained in honor of Mrs Warner with many ladies present. Prizes went to Mrs Coons and consolation to Mrs McCann.
Pressley Hiram Anderson yesterday celebrated his tenth birthday with twenty young friends at his parents home Mr and Mrs P P Anderson. Refreshments were served and guests enjoyed a Rex cinema outing afterward.
Judge John A. Riner of the federal court at Cheyenne resigned this week from active duty. T. Blake Kennedy, prominent attorney and state Republican chairman, will be appointed to fill the vacancy. Riner is the oldest federal judge by service and has long contemplated retirement.
The Basin Woman’s Club met in the library with a report on proceeds from a recent musical concert totaling $16. New members added were Mesdames Metz Coons Kimball Line Ahrens Armeling and Miss Viva Phelan.
Cheyenne reports John A. Riner is the state’s longest serving federal judge having been appointed September 22, 1890. Edgar Aldrich of New Hampshire is the next longest, appointed February 20, 1891, with a series of later appointees following in 1896 1898 1900 1901 and beyond. Riner records one year of active federal bench service. C. D. Markham Thermopolis and Joe Cook Worland were in town Tuesday regarding a well drilled in Torchlight Held Republican printing.
District court proceedings in the state name seek removal of Mayor James A. Quiner and Councilmen C. H. Burritt L. O. Gray and James Tolstrup of Manderson. The action challenges Manderson’s 1919 incorporation for lacking the required 150 residents, noting only about 135 residents existed, with taxes and improvements prompting the challenge. Attorneys for both sides, including R. B. West for supporters, prepare for court contest.
The Big Horn County Bar association court officers and neighbors hosted Judge P. W. Metz on Wednesday evening for the 38th anniversary. The gathering featured cards, a midnight luncheon, and a Shrine pin gift from C A Zaring.
A potato meeting will be held at the library on the 20th in the evening. A large attendance of those interested in potato growing and marketing is requested as talks and instructions are expected to benefit growers and shippers.
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Atherly hosted a surprise bridge party Tuesday evening for Mr. Atherly on his birth anniversary. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. James Keacle, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Zane, Dr. and Mrs. M. H. Smith, Mr. and Mrs Neal Anderson, Mr. and Mrs J. A. Berry, Mr. and Mrs C. W. Atherly, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Spurrier. Honors went to Mrs. C. W. Atherly and Dr. M. H. Smith as refreshments and vocal selections delighted the attendees.
