Officials survey proposed Basin Burlington road project

Secretary May of the Chamber of Commerce Harry L Wise Lou Blakesley and L A Thorley led a party including N T Olson district 4 engineer and Drummond surveying engineer over the Basin to Burlington road. Burlington business leaders welcomed them and discussed plans before a luncheon. Surveying under Drummond began on Thursday with no definite construction start date yet.

Wise Bros Buy Drug Store in Basin Wyoming

Frank A. Wise of Worland H B Wise and Harry L Wise of Basin purchase the Eppelsheimer Abbott drug stock and fixtures. They will move to the Denver Cafe building and open a modern drug store under Herbert B E Wise with Harry L Wise handling stationery and jewelry. Announcement of the opening date follows next week.

Basin High School Football Dinner Honors Win

Mayor Rh, B West and J C Stewart hosted Basin high school football players at the Markham last Saturday celebrating the season opener victory. Seventeen players attended with Prof F L McNown and Coach Leo Kische. Felicitations were exchanged and a general good time ensued. Decorations featured the school colors green and white.

Ohio Oil plans large gas line from Elk Basin to Billings

Ohio Oil company announces immediate entry into the gas business with a 70 mile pipeline from Elk Basin to Billings and connections to towns en route. Five hundred workers will lay the line, with mains expected by cold weather, plus gas piping from Byron to Powell.

Death of Mrs. McCracken in Basin and Shell services

Mrs. Bert McCracken died at Basin hospital after typhoid fever on October 3 1921 aged 23. She was born Mabel L. Saban in Genoa Nebraska September 18 1898 and married July 15 1918. Services were held in Basin and Shell with Royal Neighbors participation and interment in Shell Cemetery.

Gilbert injunction case heard in district court this week

Judge P W Metz heard the Gilbert injunction case from Greybull Tuesday. The court found the place may be closed with ten days to remove belongings, allowed one boarder over fifty, and made the injunction permanent with costs assessed. Next week’s trials set include Eth el L Hardy v Ona Hardy and other demurrers and filings.

Death of Cy Herd in Auto Accident Near Roundup

Fred Frisby received a telegram announcing the accidental death of Cy Herd near Roundup Montana in an automobile accident. Herd was a well driller and longtime resident of this town. He is survived by a wife a son and a daughter. For two years he worked with the Van Duzen Ol Co at Roundup.

State highway survey begins on Basin Burlington road

The state highway department started the survey of Basin Burlington road yesterday morning and expects to finish in about a week. After the survey is submitted to the commissioners and advertised per law, construction will begin, a development welcomed by local residents expecting improved travel.

L A Plank Remembered After Death in Gebo Wyoming

L A Plank, accidentally shot near Kirby on September 10, died September 30, 1921 in Gebo Wyoming at age 24. Born near Springfield Missouri, he joined the Christian church at West Plains and married Mary E Talbott in 1920. He served in the U S Marine Corps during World War I and is survived by his wife, father, two sisters and a brother. Funeral held at the Methodist church with American Legion honors and a Basin quartet. Interment at Mount View Cemetery with military escort.

Oil lands royalty shares allotted to Big Horn and state

Wyoming state royalties distributed from government owned oil lands totaled 748445.74 with 50 percent to schools 38 percent to highways 10 percent to the State university and 2 percent to the originating counties. Big Horn Basin counties received specific sums including Washakie 7187.95 Hot Springs 7712.08 Park 13402.54 and schools allocated by teacher counts.

County agrees to aid road link to forest service in Big Horns

Interviewers from Lovell and nearby towns report strong support for a Five Springs area road to connect with the forest service road. North end towns Powell Cody and others have raised 5000 dollars by subscription and the county may spend up to 2000 to assist. The project aims to provide access for stockmen and tourists and become part of a larger Big Horns road network.

Plumbing shop planned in Powell by T. S. Armstrong

T. S. Armstrong of this place expects to establish a plumbing shop and supply store in Powell. He anticipates a large business due to Ohio gas piping from the Byron field to Powell and plans to carry a full line of gas stoves and accessories.
