President Harding outlines in his inaugural address that the United States should avoid permanent military alliances and new entanglements abroad while seeking understanding with other nations. He emphasizes preserving liberty under law, national sovereignty, and the primacy of American judgment in policy choices.
Mrs. C. A. Nadler entertained a few friends on Wednesday afternoon for bridge. Delightful refreshments were served and guests reported a most enjoyable time.
Governor Carey announces the veto of an act regulating natural gas use for carbon black manufacture. He cites poor drafting, enforcement doubts, and the need for a plan that avoids hardship to communities. The message references Enrolled Act No 78 and potential Public Service Commission controls.
Last Friday EK H Glasgow bought a half interest in the Rexall drug store from C A Nadler. Glasgow has long been connected with the store and will strengthen Basin retail business. Nadler will continue with the store and plans to improve service for the large local patronage. The Presbyterian faction and Mrs J P Arnott will meet next Thursday March 17.
The 5th day of March, 1921, Robert D. Carey Governor of Wyoming signs and affixes the Great Seal at the capitol in Cheyenne. W. E. Chaplin serves as Secretary of State and witnesses the act.
The Basin Woman's Club held a regular session on March 9 with a brief business period followed by a program led by Mrs. Moore. The event featured sketches of poets, readings, a Kilmer piece, a Eugene Field sketch, vocal solos, and instrumental numbers. Visitor Mrs. J. M. Stephens of Greybull attended.
M Gingrich of Ohio had business in Worland Tuesday. A rig may arrive at Manderson soon for Bonanza field work. Genoa Wyoming moves tools toward Utah. Rumley of Byron field’s gasoline plant visited Worland. H K Pratt of Gaylord Kansas seeks lands in T 50 R 92 to drill this spring. Impounded oil funds due the state may total a million dollars soon. Local Worland leaseholders sub let Sec 16 to Cook-Worland and James A Quiner. Producers Exploration holdings secured for drilling. Oil prices reflect supply and demand with mid west and Texas ample supply and California higher demand. American Petroleum Institute 1920 world output at 689 million barrels, exports up, imports up. US refinery consumption 437.6 million barrels. end-year stocks 137 million. Debate grows on restricting oil exports as harming industry.
A meeting in the Chamber of Commerce rooms gathered farmers and town merchants to discuss a proposed canning factory. A veteran canning industry man presented a plan, and a committee including Julian Strait O R Irwin and H Armeling was formed to canvass local growers. The project hinges on farmer interest before negotiations with the plant owner proceed.
Governor Robert D. Carey proclaims a statewide special election on May 10 1921 to decide issuing state highway bonds totaling 1 800 000 dollars. Bonds would be five hundred to ten thousand dollar denominations, due in 20 years with 5 percent interest, redeemable after 10 years. County boards ordered to arrange polling places and procedures.
Elliott Shaw resigns as county clerk to take a higher paying post with Lloyd Construction in Greybull. Basin community extends best wishes to the Shaws as Mrs Hennice Dodge is appointed to fill the vacancy.
A filled school gym hosted a Red Cross benefit concert featuring a junior chorus, a high school glee club, and a graceful solo dance. Miss Priscilla Owens directed the youth chorus. Supt. F. L. McNown urged aid for European children.
Great Western Sugar Company outlines two beet payment options for the coming season. One contract bases beet price on the net proceeds from refined sugar, with adjustments for the 1921 crop sold between Oct 1 1921 and Oct 1 1922, and includes the grower sharing in sugar proceeds. The second offers a guaranteed flat price, avoiding sugar market fluctuations, with a sliding scale paying $1.25 per ton above the average net price per 100 pounds of sugar from the 1921 crop sold during Oct 1 1921 to Sep 30 1922, as recorded in company books.
