President-elect Warren G. Harding and Mrs. Harding depart Marion for Washington amid emotional farewells and testimonials. The couple receives a silver plaque from local church leaders as they embark on duties at the White House with Cabinet selections still pending.
The speaker calls for a spirit of nationwide goodwill, asking for prayers and friendship as he takes office. He emphasizes reverence for Almighty God and belief that divine guidance shaped the republic's destiny, seeking unity and support from fellow countrymen.
Last Saturday marked Albert Burroughs birthday with a small gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Burroughs. Guests included Richard Gibson Harriet Anderson Pressley Anderson Blaine Glasgow D Hudson Barbara Jane Wilson Jane Heaton and Martha McNown.
The Basin Men's Club hosted a father and son banquet at the library last Monday with praise from Rev. Leon A Losey and judge P W Metz. A quartet performed and speakers urged youth to prepare for community leadership and honesty, marking a successful community event.
At a county commissioners meeting the American Legion secured a twenty year ground lease for a Legion building. The brick or stucco fifty by one hundred foot structure may be placed south of the road into the fairgrounds if plans align with local post office and library aesthetics. If not, a northern strip near the gulch may be used. The county attorney will draft the lease once size and construction are finalized for community use and Legion meetings.
A Midwest Refining well in Grass Creek taps Lakota sand at 1,894 feet with strong flow, indicating field extension beyond current development. The Lakota oil resembles Hamilton Dome crude with asphaltic base and high gasoline content, suggesting further productive potential in the Grass Creek system.
The county board in session approved a $1000 appropriation for agricultural extension work. A. E. Bowman from Laramie discussed the program with the commissioners, intended to support a county agent provided by the extension department. C. A. Welch, recently ill, attended.

Marion Tanner Post American Legion met in the library on Wednesday with E. C. Calhoun of Calver presenting on compensation laws and veteran training benefits. The evening ended with dancing to the Star Orchestra and refreshments. A. C. Whitcher of St. Joe planned a sale on March 17.
The Basin basketball squad of six regulars and Coach Hehcore will travel to Laramie on Sunday, March 15 for the estate tournament spanning from the Lath to the Lath of the month. The team represents the fraternity and is wished good luck in the competition.
The high school week featured the creation of an Athletic Association with officers: President Loren Pegg Vice-President Erwin Beard Secretary Albert May and Treasurer Wayne Hanton. Members adopted green and white as new school colors and planned baseball practice after the basketball team’s return from Laramie. The fast team is expected to draw good crowds, having gone undefeated last season.
Miss Julia McNay celebrated her tenth birthday at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs O W McNay last Saturday with a small group of friends. Guests included Thelma Kaster Inez Kaster Myrtle Kaster Christine McKone Marie Kimbro Marion Bishop Ruth Hoover Ruth Richard Anna Hoffman Margaret West Margaret Losey Virginia Woning Jean Lewis Josephine Harris Viola Morton Paul McKone James Bonine and John Thomas Bishop. The afternoon featured games and other amusements followed by refreshments.
Washington mourns Champ Clark of Missouri a towering figure in the Democratic party and former speaker whose 26 years in the house ended with defeat. He died near the capitol after urging no public halt in business. His death at age 70 evoked solemn adjournment and memories of his leadership.
Judge Will travel to other districts in days ahead as several Basin cases proceed. Tucker vs Lewis ended in favor of the defendant with a directed verdict after evidence showed the plaintiff disclosed all facts to the county attorney. Gould vs railroad awarded $1200 to the plaintiff after the jury viewed the premises. Tolman vs railroad found 244 sheep lost in transit valued at 9.55 each. Weber vs Latham awarded 15 for killing a dog with both sides paying costs. Fraser vs Welch consumed most of Wednesday and Thursday. Armeling v Jones proceeded as Fraser Welch rested. The court stood in recess as the judge handled other district matters.
A meeting is called in the Chamber of Commerce rooms next Tuesday evening to consider securing a canning factory for the area. A veteran in the business will present facts and growers will outline first year crop plans. Lao U. McCalmon, who forged checks and was sent to the penitentiary, was moved to Rawlings this week.
