Basin Chamber Calls for New Depot at Local Station

Basin Wyoming chamber of commerce urges immediate Burlington railroad action to replace the inadequate station. At a February 26 meeting President Zaring and Secretary Bonwell were tasked to draft resolutions requesting a depot meeting public needs and improving safety and efficiency for travelers and town image.

School Play a Big Success in Basin District

The Basin schools presented a five week effort titled Jack and the Bean Stalk at the Big Horn theatre. Lower and some upper grades performed under trained leadership with standout roles for Jack Fairy and Jennie. The show drew a full house and more than fifty patrons were turned away, with many standing to watch.

Cattle Drive Through Town Returns Homeward

Last Friday afternoon A. C. Burgeau drove a herd of 290 cattle past town. The steers and heifers had grazed in the Otto country and were returning to Hyattville.

Robbery Reported by Mrs Woodward in Grey Bull

Mrs Ralph Woodward of Grey Bull reported a laundry room break in with over one hundred dollars in clothes stolen. Basin officers aided after Greybull authorities offered no help. Navy recruiter F O Ball visited Basin. John Menea passed examination and heads to Billings for orders. The Bishops plan a trip to Cheyenne then Denver for business and recreation.

Potatoes from Basin Bring Strong Price Per Acre

A car of potatoes produced on less than an acre in Basin sold this week for just over $900, a solid return for such a small plot.

Jury Called Under Judge Metz Order

On February 26 Judge P W Metz ordered a jury to be called and the names selected. Parties were notified to appear on March 12 by Clerk Frank J Rue.

Garage Sale Change Hands In Basin Wyoming

This week the Yellowstone Highway Garage changed ownership from W. W. Murphy Motor Co to Lee Motor Co of Basin. The Lee firm led by J. A. Lee A K Lee and Randall Austin will run as a Ford garage with Ford cars for sale. Austin arrived from Denver to inventory stock then move operations. Murphy Co continues Hup and Maxwell in a modern shop with Robt Wilcox in charge. Austin a Ford veteran will relocate to Basin with family.

Unlimited Water in Big Horn Basin

An article on the Big Horn Canal Co formed in 1907 to irrigate 28000 acres along the Big Horn river. By 1911 most water rights were sold and the project was turned to the Big Horn County Canal Association. Land prices range 25 to 60 dollars per acre with open land around Basin. Three crops of alfalfa yearly possible. sugar beets thrive. some tracts valued 100 to 140 dollars per acre. Secretary R B West invites inquiries. directors met in Omaha with officers elected.

Kendrick Resigns as Wyoming Governor

Acting Governor Frank L. Houx proclaims succession to the office of governor of Wyoming after the resignation of John B. Kendrick. The proclamation, dated February 24, 1917, at Cheyenne, establishes Houx as holder of the duties and powers of the office.
