Deaver in Town Sees Dairy Prosperity Ahead

Immigration agent D Clem Deaver visited Basin, praising local dairy herd development and forecasting strong profits from cheaper hay, rising cattle numbers, and hog potential amid growing rail traffic. He projected Burlington trains southward by August and optimism for Big Horn Basin land values within two years.

Whist Afternoon at Mrs Zane’s Charms Guests

Mrs L A Zane hosted a charming four table whist afternoon last Friday. A two course luncheon followed a lively game with trophies won by Mrs F A Wise and Mrs Ross. Garfield Sherman Heads To Pacific Coast For Health

Garfield Sherman left last Saturday for the Pacific coast hoping to improve his health. He plans to stay about two months visiting various places in California before returning home. For the past two years he has worked for G. W. Black & Co. and has never missed a day of work. His employer remarks that such efficient service deserves a vacation.

Lovell Farmers Contract More Beets This Year

Word from Lovell shows farmers increasing beet acreage with 1 460 acres already contracted and the Billings sugar factory allotment of 2 000 acres expected to be fully contracted soon.

Germania hay almost sold with none left this spring

Reports from Germania indicate that nearly all the hay has been sold, with the remainder bringing about 50 cents to a dollar per ton in the market. No hay will be left to cut over the upcoming spring in that section.

Woman's Club Meets Promotes Turner Prints Exhibit

Large attendance at the Woman's Club meeting held last Wednesday at the Library. In business session the civic committee announced plans to cooperate on the Turner Prints exhibit. Refreshments were served. Mrs. Leighty chaired and spoke on music. The program featured Carl Armeling with Winifred Patten, Mrs B T Joslin, G A Harris, Loren Gray, J P Arnott Jr., and H H Hime performing several solos and encores.

Turner Prints Exhibit Set for Basin Library

A civic committee of ten Woman's Club members plans to display 200 Turner Prints reproductions of ancient and modern art in Basin Library on February 7 to 10. The collection includes small to large works in gray and brown monotones and hand painted pieces. The event will also mark Charles Dickens centenary with an entertainment program on February 7. Further details will appear next week.

Mrs Freeman Entertains A Friendly Afternoon

Mrs M J Freeman hosted a ladies gathering last Tuesday from 2 30 to 5 00 pm with guests Mesdames Arnott Anderson Booth Bircumshaw Collins Hyde Lawrence Patten Frisby F A Wise Wickwire Carr Simpson Ross Zane and Heron. The event featured whist, with head prize won by Mrs F A Wise and consolation prize to Mrs Bircumshaw. Guests praised the delightful afternoon and refreshments.

Booth First Depositor in Basin Postal Savings Bank

Mayor W. J. Booth became the first depositor at the Basin post office loaning funds to the new postal savings bank last Friday. A noted collector of old paper money and ancient documents, Booth sought the first depositor certificate to enhance his collection.

Will Buy Cream by A H Beyer in Lovell

Joe Cook reports A H Beyer will buy cream in Lovell early next month after purchasing the old creamer y building and installing modern machinery. The Western Creamery & Produce Company will pay Montana cream prices, saving farmers about ninety miles in transport. Beyer plans to visit soon to interview farmers and develop a shipping business.

Filter Expert Here In town for water system project

BE. Von Wurtamgerode a filter expert from Chicago is in town to connect up the new filter for the water system and expects all necessary connections made and the filter in use soon. Willie Dittmer of Mandereon visited as a Basin guest on Wednesday.

Progress association enlists aid for postal, literature drives

At the Progress association dinner at the Antlers with President J. B. Thompson presiding, committees reported on data letters for publication, a literature distribution drive, and fundraising for postage. A 2,000 free distribution cardhead was approved, and plans for a week of letter writing were left to the committee. The group discussed water from the Goodrich well, drainage projects in the Basin, and cooperation on capital for a hay stacker invention. The meeting adjourned after routine announcements and references to future work.

Wickwire Defends Jail Visit In Rustler Row

Sheriff B F Wickwire denies malice in an article from January 19. He recounts taking M R Douglas from the county jail to his Basin business to inspect invoicing of U S bonded goods, then returning him to jail within about 15 minutes. He asserts no liquor was involved and demands the Rustler editor produce witnesses or proof or face prosecution.
