A Tuesday afternoon collision at the Kane west crossing involved a Billings bound train and a Ford driven by J B Brown and his wife. Mrs Brown suffered serious injuries and was unconscious for about thirty minutes. both were taken to Greybull hospital and are improving.
Mr and Mrs J H Hanlon received a letter from their son Jack Lewis revealing he has served five months and earned a promotion to sergeant first class. He served around Basin and now works in the Aero Squadron at Kelly Field Texas. He hopes to go overseas in spring to "get their Germans" and contribute to the war effort.
Mrs. J. F. Dickman and her three daughters delivered a large batch of knitted items to the Red Cross headquarters including 12 sweaters 4 helmets 2 mufflers 1 pair of socks and 7 wristlets. She notes 26 840 stitches per sweater and 26 800 per muffler and in one hour knitted five inches of a sweater totaling about 2 600 stitches. The report praises Basin women and warns yarn supplies may run low.
Col. W. B. Cropsey will travel to Cody next week to assist at the January 26 sale at Shoshone Stock Farm. Known nationwide for effective livestock auctions, he has scheduled several major dates this spring and urges early sale requests as prime dates fill quickly.
Mrs P Brown at the Golden Rule shop proudly displays the town's first service flag in a public recognition ceremony. The modest display signals local support for service members and honors the military families in the community.
A local resident places a flag in the window to honor Lieut. John P. Arnott who enlisted while employed at the site. The gesture recognizes his service and brands the display as a tribute to a hometown serviceman.
Word reached reports that Christie Houx son of Frank L. Houx aged 17 drowned when his boat capsized on Lin denmeyer lake at Fort Collins Colorado. He could not reach help before giving out as Mr Houx was in Washington and a message was sent.
The Red Cross asks all women who have finished knitted articles to bring them in for inclusion in the box that will depart next Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Ackerman of Casper are visiting F W Ackerman and wife when Ralph slipped on ice stepping from a train and sprained his back. He will return to Casper as soon as he can resume work.
Roy Earl Conner of Lodge Grass Montana and Gladys Hinton of Hinton Virginia wed at the Methodist parsonage on Saturday afternoon. Rev. R. M. Jones officiated and the couple will reside in Lodge Grass.
County Agent Allyn H. Tedman organized Basin’s first farmers institute at the library with about twenty five attendees. Dr Lenhart spoke on prevalent diseases and practical remedies, answering questions from farmers. Clyde W Atherly chaired the session and praised the turnout and information.
The Who-do class of the Methodist church held a party Tuesday at Miss Helen Ackerman's home. They formed committees to arrange the upcoming supper, and light refreshments of ice cream and cake were served as a pleasant close to the evening.
Rehearsals for a home talent musical comedy directed by Verna Woods and Mabel Larson progress for a January 21 performance. The cast features Kath leen O Neil Lucille Coons Jeannette Lamb Harry Hime T Erle Keefer and R J Extra with a chorus of young women performing songs and dances including the Hula Hula and Chinese fantasy. Proceeds from a prior College Humbug staged by Mrs Woods and Mrs Larson raised about 1200 for Red Cross.
The Basin Chamber of Commerce held a regular meeting to appoint a committee to secure pledges for the coming year and to plan the quarterly officer elections next Monday. A post office site, brick quality, and new lease timing were discussed, with a move to have a new building ready by July. The group urged universal participation and membership, active or social.
Billy Lynam a popular stock commission man has moved his business to Tagg Bros Moor in Omaha Neb He is well known in this region with many rancher friends and has spent twelve years with the Frazier Johnson Co learning the stock trade.
Private Cecil H. Scott describes a trench encounter in which his crew loses their guns, he continues with another unit, and holds a position for eight hours by sniping Fritz. He reports scattering attackers, their surrender, and his receipt of the military medal. He praises endurance and gratitude for survival.
Lt Huckans, a guest at the Tallon residence in Worlands, is stationed at Fort Slocum, New York. He has spent several summers in the Big Horn country and visited relatives before traveling overseas.
The Methodist aid society held a regular business meeting yesterday afternoon at Mrs. Frank A. Wise's residence. Serving day followed with each attendee bringing three edible contributions and a communal meal.
Mrs Mra Mra Douglas and Mrs C H Fitzpatrick arrived in Basin on Tuesday after a three week trip in Iowa where they were called due to the death of their brother who served in the secret service there.
On Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jas A Berry entertained at dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs Frank A Wise Mr and Mrs R H Ahrens from Greybull and Mr and Mrs W H Pauley and daughter Esther.
The flag from the Pease-Peterson store window was rescued by L. W. Olsen and presented to him by the company. It is now on display at the depot.
County Agent Allyn H. Tedmon left yesterday for Wheatland Lara mie and Fort Collins Colorado for a two week trip. He attends a county agents meeting at Lar amie and will visit relatives in Colorado after.
Mrs. Frank Brown of Billings Montana visits her sister Mrs. L W Olsen for a few weeks at her home.
Local board of Big Horn County reports questionnaires sent to draft registrants and rapid distribution of classification cards. Registrants need not report unless notified but must inform local boards of whereabouts. Names of those not returning questionnaires by the 2oth will be posted as slackers.
On Monday evening the annual installation of officers in the O. B. 8. was held at Fraternity hall. The brief note records the event and location with no further details.

Maggie J Arnott won seventh term as secretary the longest tenure for any member.
Word has reached that Rupert Anderson is ill with measles at the camp hospital. Vern Patterson is down with scarlet fever. The Mothers and Friends have sent $5 to be spent for the sick boys at the camp.
R. E. Cheetham arrived in town with coyote hides and reported his son has a broken leg. Details of the accident are not yet known.
R. E. Rudesill of Deadwood South Dakota visited Basin over Sunday staying with Mr. and Mrs. T S Armstrong at their home.
Basin audiences welcomed the Broadway Players for a third visit this winter with larger crowds each time. Leads Hogan and Waddell head a company including Thompson Marvin Drecker, and leading lady Helen Shipman with Reed and McDonald in female roles. The troupe plans another Basin engagement in about three weeks.
Millions of dollars in livestock are killed as owners let animals wander onto railroad rights of way. With global food shortages and a drive for conservation, careless handling cost 3.68 million this year. One state reported 1862 animals killed, including fine dairy cows, on tracks.
Mrs. L. W. Olsen hosted a Sunday dinner in honor of her husband birthday. Relatives attended and he received several useful and pretty gifts.
Mr and Mrs T Armstrong entertained the J T card club at their home last Thursday evening. Mr and Mrs BE F Peterson were the guests of honor.
EB Sullivan was guest of honor at a Sunday dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. T. K. Blahop. Ed Krueger of Hyattville drove to Basin for the flat of the week.
Pease and Peterson bought Clyde Warner’s men’s furnishings shop to free up space for daily incoming stock. Silver remains with the Pease Peterson Co to supervise the men’s department during the transition, with remodeling and basement packing under way. They may source goods from Greybull to satisfy customers.
Mrs Laura Woodward of Greybull and Harry Malone of Greybull were married in Basin after securing a license on Monday forenoon. Judge Metz officiated. Mrs Malone is well known in Basin and Meeteetse, and Mr Malone is a prominent railroad man from Greybull. Friends extend their good wishes.
Wednesday night Basins residents attended a fine meeting at the Grey Bull to install a new Rebekah lodge. Fifteen participants joined from Basin including Mesdames Rhodes Gibson Johnson O Neil Smith Ex tra Collins Whitmore Gould Hoover Collins and Miss Juliette Collins, and Messrs Schenk Brigham Osborn Gould.
Miss Della Garland of Greybull and Roy C. Ludington of Greybull were married Wednesday afternoon at the home of Rev M F Newport. Garland has long resided in Greybull and Basin, where she is well known. the couple will reside in Greybull where Ludington is employed.
Hugh Cuthbertson of Des Moines Iowa arrived in Basin Saturday afternoon representing Orchard Wilhelm Co of Omaha He attended college with the editor of The Republican and both were agreeable surprised by the meeting
