J D Johnson, a leading Basin business man and prominent advertiser, died Saturday evening at his home after months of illness from apoplexy. The community was shocked by the sudden death and notes say he had been steadily weakening. Burial arrangements were planned following the death.

He mentored local advertising and community progress. Survived by widow two daughters and a son funeral at Temple LodgeNo 30 A F & A M with Rev Albone and a dedicatory quartet.
The obituary recalls Mr. Johnson's death as a public calamity with hundreds of friends, pallbearers named L A Zane C E B Armeling W B Pease D L Carr G M Booth and D K Lewis. The body accompanied by the widow and son was taken to Des Moines for burial on Wednesday after leaving Monday in rain. Condolences are extended to the grieving family.
Dr and Mrs M H Smith thank friends for sympathy kindness and help shown during the sickness and death of their child Wetty.
H. H. Hime, cashier of Basin State Bank, will move into the Broadmoor house tomorrow, the former residence of Dr. 8. J. Neil, who has purchased the property and taken possession.
Owing to the absence of the pastor in Thermopol's there will be no services at the Episcopal church the coming Sunday. Wm. Jones of Manderson braved the blizzard to transact business here yesterday.
The Alfalfa Club of Washakie County calls a Worland meeting February 12 1914 to press for continuous passenger service between Billings and Casper with connecting trains, to launch a cooperative campaign to advertise and attract settlers, and to seek interline freight terms between C B and Q and Chicago Northwestern for cattle and sheep shipments. The note cites Burlington disruption between Themelropolis and Orin Junction, arguing Bottled up conditions may persist two years, prompting urgent regional action.
Sheriff Winkwire warns all automobile owners that the new license for 1914 was due January 1 and must be secured without delay. The law will be strictly enforced with a $50 fine for violations, so owners should obtain their licenses promptly.
Progress club members met at the Antlers for a dinner discussion on a proposed alfalfa meal mill. Gilmore Hartigan reported 150 cars of alfalfa shipped locally this fall and similar stock ready to ship, suggesting a 15 000 ton per year capacity. The group debated pricing for loose versus baled hay and tasked Lou Blakesley to survey farmers unions and report in two weeks.

During the week a regional storm caused breaks across the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. except the Hasin division which had no trouble. Linemen patrolled lines to repair breaks and the management credits Holtman and his crew for stable, reliable service. J. W. Graves, a Havansa country leader, visited Havansa town and made a pleasant call to the office.

The Intermountain Fair and Racing circuit will meet in Thermopolis on February 15 to arrange dates and purses for 1914. The circuit covers Red Lodge Cody Bridger Basin Thermopolis Lander Casper and the Douglas state fair. Catholic Church services will be held Sunday February 8 with Mass at 10 o'clock.
Casper will become the Wyoming passenger and freight division point on the Gulf to Coast route. Burlington Railroad plans include an $85,000 station, a fourfold enlarged roundhouse, 41 mile long sidetracks, and a workforce of about a thousand this spring with potential 2000 more residents. Yards lie north of town near the Platte with wells for water and trees to spruce the property.
Washington reports Representative Mondell introduced a leasing measure for oil and gas lands to spur Wyoming development, balance public interests, and gain west support. The bill authorizes licenses up to three years and leases up to thirty, with 5 cent per acre annual fees, royalties of 1 tenth of well value, and state 75 percent revenue for roads and schools.
