Rousing Reception for Basin High Girls Quartette

A large Basin audience greeted the Basin High School Girls Quartette at Fraternity Hall on Tuesday night. The quartet delivered a strong program with standout readings by Miss Whiley and crowd-pleasing singing that drew sustained applause, earning praise as superior to any professional company seen locally.

Birth Anniversary Kaffee Elatech at Library

Mrs W C Snow entertained at the library last Saturday afternoon from 2 30 to 6 o'clock for her birth anniversary at a Kaffee Elatech. Over fifty invitations were issued and all reported a delightful time. Assisting were Miss Fessenbeck Miss Doughty and Mesdames G A Harris D E Lewis and T M Hyde. Serving aids were Mrs G W Guyor and the Misses Mery Marshall Alice Thompson Mabel Tallon and Juliette Collins. Rev M Joslin gave a solo during the afternoon. The Big Horn Producers association executive committee met in the city with Wm Crosier Otto Z O Knode Greybull Arthur Ig Worland and Wm Snow Basin. The committee planned to issue a circular letter to county farmers to join the association and to send a speaker to localities to create interest. District committee members will hold a meeting soon to pursue the same goal.

Jenkine VanDorn Wed in Portland Oregon Home

Jenkine of this city married Mrs Helen VanDorn of Portland on December 12 at the brother L A Jenkins home in Portland Oregon. The groom, a leading local business man, sold his lumber yards to Berry Lumber company. The bride formerly lived here and is known to Basin residents. They arrived home last Tuesday and will begin housekeeping soon. Friends join The Republican in wishing them joy.

Doctor Trephines Skull in Successful Basin Hospital Operation

Dr C Dana Carter operated on Ellie Loughrey last Tuesday morning at Basin hospital removing a skull section. Loughrey’s past head injury from a horse fall impaired his mental faculties. the operation was a complete success and he is expected to recover mentally.

B H County Young Ladies Quartette at Thermopolis

In Thermopolis last Saturday night the B H County Young Ladies Quartette performed to a small audience. Although turnout was light, attendees praised the performance highly. A letter from H M Hanta, clerk of the county commissioners, quotes praise from the Springs town audience as the best entertainment of its kind they have seen.

Plan Larger Nursery Near Worland Wy Country

The Wyoming Plant and Deed Breeding Company plans expanding nursery operations on their experimental farm. Two acres currently host stock with twenty more acres expected in spring. Nurseryman Mr. Osborne assists. On the Ronan place south of town twenty acres are set under Ronan contract. Four acres of apple trees on the upper farm and one acre on the lower farm have been planted. The professor lauds the region as a promising fruit country.

Clawseen Convicted in Wyoming Typhoid Case

Sheridan Wyoming December 18 six jurors voted for acquittal but an all night session produced a compromise verdict convicting Herman Claussen of involuntary manslaughter with maximum twenty year penalty. Sentence suspended pending motion for a new trial. bond set at five thousand dollars. Verdict holds him culpably negligent in widow’s typhoid care with death linked to illness rather than violence.

Couple Weds After Relatives Detain Bride

Last Friday evening at Germania Rev. Germeroth united Gue Stohge of Germania and Nora Kaber of Lovell in marriage. The couple, after securing a constable to overcome objections from the bride’s Lovell relatives, reside on the W. F. Hunt farm in Germania.

Burdened by holiday rush, Basin postal patrons have thickened lines at the express and post offices this week as many Christmas packages are processed. Local merchants report a surge in mail orders, far surpassing prior years.

Senator Clark reports President Taft has nominated H. B. Ridgely of Basin for U S district attorney for Wyoming, and the Senate confirmed him. Born near Siam Iowa in 1874 Ridgely trained at University of Nebraska Law School and rose as a solicitor in North Platte Cody and Basin. His appointment brings praise from local officials and fans, who wish him success in Cheyenne beginning this month and into January.

Park County bond issue upheld after Shriners banquet visit

Mesers C A Zaring and H B Ridgely returned from Sheridan where they attended the Shriners banquet and discussed with Judge Parmelee the bonds Park County issued to build a courthouse. Basin attorneys represented the county commissioners. After hearing arguments and examining the facts, Judge Parmelee sustained the bond issue, a clear victory for Park County commissioners.

Fire Alarm From Potato Storage At Snow Residence

Fire department responded to a blaze at W. C. Snow's home on Wednesday morning. Snow stored potatoes at the foot of the cellar flue and covered them with clothing and bedding to prevent freezing. Sparks from the flue sparked a fire alarm. hardly any damage occurred to the house.

Lovell beat Basin 18 to 14 in a hard fought game. Ray Wilson starred for Lovell, playing throughout and earning top honors. A large crowd attended and afterward Lovell was treated to a dance back in Basin.

Council Meeting Discusses Street Grant and Plant Improvements

The council met in regular session last Monday with Mayor Booth and Councilmen Barnes Higby and Zane present. Minutes were read and approved. A petition from taxpayers near Highth and streets asked for a street grant. Due to funding shortages the petition was laid aside and improvements at the plant noted.
