Mining Engineer Sees Bright Future for Raudsharg Mines

John C. Wray reports from Wheeler Springs Sept 27 on the Raudsharg area where engineers foresee a valuable future for the Coyote claim. Cross-cuts east and south show strong ore bodies with potential to surpass the Kelly Mine and Sill Grady lease. A Los Angeles board plans a 700 foot shaft, new compressor, 500 ton ore bin, and upgraded plant. Second stock issue No. 13,988 is fully subscribed without brokers. Geologist W. J. Wood calls the Rand silver zone a world wonder and predicts a second Kelly Mine may emerge within two years, attracting investment.

Lord and Lowell Mine Poised for New Machinery

Randburg Notes Sees Local Business Boom and Ownership Change

C B Garrett has bought the Houser House from W J Quackenbush, president of North Rand Mining Co, who will focus on mining. Garrett arrived from El Paso and is building a flourishing business. Dick Faulk, ex Barstow, runs the barber shop in the town beside Tom Royals resort. Local business conditions have improved recently with no talk of hard times in Randburg.

Compulsory Education Law Sets Attendance Rules and Penalties

The Compulsory Education Law requires all under 18 without a full high school course and all under 21 unable to read and write English to attend school. Work permits may be issued for part time study, with penalties including fines and imprisonment for noncompliance, and enforcement extends to the State Board of Education with attendance officers.

State Highway bids called for Summit to Victorville road

The State Highway Commission invites bids to build a 15.7 mile road from Summit to Victorville, to be paved in Portland cement concrete or bituminized macadam. Two bids will be opened next Monday Oct 3 at 2 p.m. in Sacramento. Completion is estimated at ten months, with hopes to start both Barstow and Summit sections simultaneously for next summer travel.

Price of Silver Advances to New Year High in New York

The price of commercial bar silver rose to 71.34 cents per ounce in New York trading, a three cent gain from the prior close. Analysts attribute the rise to reduced copper output increasing silver by product supply and the U S Treasury absorbing the full U S silver production.

Barstow Boy Laid to Rest With Military Honors

Richard A. Griffith of Barstow was killed in the Argonne on September 28 1918 and laid to rest with full military honors at Live Oak cemetery Monrovia. His funeral followed arrival of his remains in Hoboken September 10 aboard a ship carrying 1500 fallen comrades. pallbearers included Arthur Combs Bart Harvey and John Casner.

Antlers Club Rooms Hosts Social Evening With Games and Dance

The Antlers held a Wednesday social at their club room with members their families and ladies as guests. The Antlers orchestra played several selections then Bert Gibbs led a boxing and wrestling program.
