Christmas Packages for Prisoners Aid From Red Cross
The American Red Cross and Bureau of Prisoners relief urge families of American POWs to send Christmas parcels to their men in German and Austrian camps. Regulations specify 11 pound limit, prepaid express, addressed to the prisoner at his camp, with outer wrap to New York, and parcels arriving by October 15, 1918. Mojave River Valley Chapter members are urged to attend the regular Red Cross meeting in Barstow at 8 p m on October 7 for the annual election of officers. The current officers seek dedicated individuals to lead the chapter next year and continue its expansive work. The gathering will be in the Barstow High School assembly room.

Red Cross Reaches Quota Despite Heat Alarms
Local Red Cross women exceeded the quota sending aid from headquarters during hot weather. The chapter provided 40 pairs of socks and 47 sweaters, plus 100 pajama sets and 150 children's pinafores. Led by chairman B F Gann, workers persevered through days with little outdoor activity and organized additional shipments to Belgians and San Francisco.

Liberty loan special in Barstow October 6
A special train arrives in Barstow at 10 o clock Saturday morning October 6 carrying Allied war exhibits. American and French veterans on board will give talks during the stop. The five car train will display Allied war exhibits and will spend the night of the 4th in Needles, then be in Barstow from 10 to 12 o clock the following day.
