Yermo Man Takes Life Despondency and Estrangement

Lyle E. Kenny, despondent over a marital estrangement, shot himself Monday morning at his Yermo home. His body was found by a brother who thought he had overslept for work at Western Pacific Oil Co. Holdings. The remains were sent to Barstow for services and cremation in San Bernardino. Mrs. Kenny and their son arrived from San Diego for the funeral. Kenny had lived in Yermo since 1917 and left a note with burial instructions and a letter to his wife.

Deserts Oil Drilling Delays At Barstow Area Wells

Postponement of Assessment Notice No. 111 appears in the Printer issue for Kramer Consolidated Oil Company west of Barstow. The firm plans three wells in coming months. two have produced noncommercial oil though high test. Como Oil continues Cajon Pass drilling. Prospecting Life of Pete Ring Near Amboy

A P Ring and associates Marcus Plath and the Alf family of Daggett discovered a gold deposit nine miles south of Amboy named the American Mine. More than three thousand feet developed, two 300 foot deep tunnels, four shafts, and ore visible underground. Ore value averages $6 per ton to 35 feet, with over half a million tons in sight. Ring sold his Barstow shoe shop to resume prospecting, plans to work hills north of Pete’s recent Kiwanis trip to Memphis.

Pete Ring Sells Shoe Shop to Griffith

Pete Ring who started Pete's Shoe Shop in Barstow in 1917 sold the business to R C Griffith and his son Will. The new managers took charge today. Ring returns from a three month east trip that included a Kiwanis convention in Memphis and visits in Chicago. During his absence Shoeshop duties were handled by Houck and Lee. Lee departs for LaMesa to oversee property interests. Ring plans Los Angeles then Barstow prospecting. Griffith works night shift at Central Garage. Will works for Kennedy mining near Wild Station. A top notch repairer is hired to run the shop with new owners remaining in their current posts.

Romance Met Tragedy Haggett Railroad Accident

Mr and Mrs Benjamin Sames of Lexington Kentucky were seriously injured in a high speed crash at a Daggett railway crossing. The 18 and 19 year olds were returning from their California honeymoon in a Chrysler when the car jumped the tracks, causing severe injuries to Mrs Sames including pelvic fractures and abdominal lacerations. her husband aided by a nurse, both rushed to Barstow and then Los Angeles for care. The couple reported 65 mph driving just before impact and a gun carried by Mr Sames due to a previous threat. Their diamond ring and luggage were lost and not recovered.
