Barstow Builds New McRae & Co Structure in Town

Finishing touches are put on the McRae & Co building in Barstow. The concrete block structure measures 70 by 75 feet with nine foot porches and mission styling. Lower floors house Waite tobacco and confectionery, Mrs. K C Lee theatre, and McRae cafe. Barstow Hotel occupies the second floor with 33 rooms. The hotel is leased to Mrs. Mary Fletcher and features a lobby, two baths in every room, and electric lighting. total cost about 15000 dollars.

Hennesy and Local Tradesmen Visitors at Dale Camp

News notes Dale W. M. Hennesy of Los Angeles visited the camp last week then departed for Eagle. Mrs. J. E. McIntosh of Mecca hires a six mule team to haul freight between Amboy and Dale and plans to bring her husband out soon.

Local notes that P. M. LeSage visits Los Angeles as the new time card from December 1 introduces southbound No. 7 from Barstow to San Bernardino and Los Angeles at 1:35 a.m. The DeLuxe train launches December 12 between Chicago and Los Angeles with a $25 surchange and no passes. The Greenwater Co. completes a new cyanide plant designed by John McGee and O. E. Schiffner. The project aims to boost district mining, with contractors Leonard Casey and Smith transferring the O. K. Shaft deal to Casey Carr and Murphy. Thos. Holmes returns to install two hoists near the O. K. group. more notes to follow under Ludlow and Silver Lake.

Mining push expands Tecopa borax and lead efforts

Dr. Goodcell of Needles leads a movement to open the Tecopa lead mine and nearby borax mines to the northwest. Rail spurs will be built to the mines with a large labor force likely. The Lila C mine ships 5000 tons of borax monthly as Nos. 17 and 18 adopt a new schedule after December 1, reducing travel time between Los Angeles and Phenix.
