Mother of Right Children Called Passes in Hollywood

Mrs. Garrett died at her son Jack's home in Hollywood after living in Barstow for years. Troy, known as Pat, a Barstow railroad clerk, left with Mrs. Chesterfield to accompany the body to San Angelo Texas for burial beside two of her children. Six children survive Arthur Dewey Troy Jack Olive and Stella Foley.

500 Party Gauldin Home Celebrates with Ford Theme

Miss Ethel Sell and Mrs. B F Gauldin hosted a 500 party at Mrs. Gauldin's Second Street home with Thanksgiving motifs. Prizes went to Mrs. Lubin J Henderson and Mrs. Harvey Mosier, while Mrs. Cooper earned a consolation prize. Meals featured a Ford themed course with chicken salad ginger cookies and pumpkin pie. Thirty guests attended.

Barstow Boy Honored by University of Redlands Press Club

Clinton MacKinnon of Barstow, student at the University of Redlands, was named a member of the Press Club. He has served as news editor, feature editor, editor of the Fishman Class Edition, and is now a managing editor and head of the annual Press Club edition. He is sophomores’ president and a Pi Chi pledge. Membership is limited to eight from each upper class who show top journalistic service.

Suspected Check Fraud Leads to Chase at Star Rooming House

Alfred Henderson flagged a fraudulent check drawn on Joe Carr for a clothes suit and shirt. The bogus payee, found at the Star Rooming House, fled through a dark hallway past a fence and tin cans before slipping away amid a pursuit by Judge Henderson.

Sister of Mrs Hillis Killed in Auto Accident

Notice from Barstow Garage reports the death of Mrs. Robert Hartwell sister of Mrs. E. T. Hillis owner of the Barstow Garage. Mrs Hartwell and her husband and son had many Barstow friends. She was killed in an auto accident on Ventura bridge yesterday afternoon and will be cremated here after funeral services in L. Be. Gagner's chapel at 2 30. Mrs. Kingsley A Pence aunt of Mrs Hartwell will be buried in Hollywood tomorrow. Dr Hartwell arrived in Ventura with his son after an inquest found death by accident based on an eye witness. Anne Hartwell recently earned journalism honors at Stanford. A Ventura laundry wagon driver testified the Hartwell car struck a bridge cord causing the vehicle to lurch and speed forward.

Mother of Yermo railroad clerk dies

Mrs. Cora M. Gleason of Yermo died suddenly Friday noon while talking with friend Mrs. Patterson who had just arrived from Long Beach. Born May 12, 1854 in Three Rivers Michigan she was 73 though she seemed younger. Apoplexy was the cause. Funeral services were held in Barstow and the body shipped to Long Beach for burial.

Steinberg Store Robbed Through Back Door

The Hub merchandise store owned by Sam Steinbere was broken into Tuesday night with about five hundred dollars in goods stolen. Thieves cut a hole in the rear door, removed nine suits, jackets, pants, shirts, boots, gloves, and accessories. Women’s apparel saw few items taken, but many children's shoes and sweaters were stolen. Entry occurred while Cunningham and Chas Wallace worked late. no disturbance heard. Six suitcases were used to haul loot as stock remained on tables.
