Mrs J W Whicker returns home after an extended trip to the east and midwest. She notes Chicago has changed greatly and praises its skyline lake shore drive and World’s Fair era sights. She visited alma mater Chicago Normal School and several local clubs and friends.
The Cafeteria dinner advertised by the Ladies Aid of the Congregational Church last Wednesday evening was greatly enjoyed by all who partook. The organizers thank everyone for patronizing the event. The group met Tuesday at Twobst er and twenty plus ladies sewed for the bazaar planned for December 11.

Mr and Mrs Artimio Perches recent arrivals from Texas open the White Cafe at 321 East Main Street this Saturday. The couple advertise in this issue with a focus on Mexican dishes and related fare.
Mrs. W. Eisholz from Minneola district visited Barstow on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Eisholz are turkey and alfalfa raisers who report a ready local market for their birds. Although turkey prices this year won’t enrich farmers, thousands of birds will help offset the looming tax delinquency next month.
Brooks Tabor and his sister in law Miss Tela Evans were business visitors in San Bernardino on Monday. Evans will depart for Long Beach the following Monday for a vacation.
M. is Yant, a signalman, received four checks this week from The Signalman's Journal. The payments compensate for a Hint and Short Cut Suggestion that appeared in the November issue. The suggestion explained how to find a ground on interlocking plants.
Lieut. Lee Miles a noted aviator is seen at Williams field for a couple of days this week with plane owner Percy Gardner of Redlands. Miles and Gardner fly a daily dozen sorties as Miles enjoys flight with Ann Harding joining to Barstow.
A baby boy named Lawrence arrived last Saturday in Alhambra to Mr. and Mrs. Walter S. Alf of Daggett. This is their third son, expanding the Alf family.

Esther M. Butler filed a divorce suit in San Bernardino against James J. Butler, a Santa Fe engineer. Married in Nevada on October 9, 1929, they separated July 7, 1961, and have two children. He earns 218 dollars a month. she seeks 75 dollars monthly support.
Antonio Franco escaped death when his Buick struck the east bridge near Midway after a fire ignited in the ignition wires. He lost headlights, the car crashed into the bridge, and he regained consciousness after removal from the wreck. This is his third wreck and he works at the Tale mine in Silver Lake. Camilo Franco, his brother, survived four accidents but suffered a broken back in a cave-in. he has been in hospital for five months.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Watkins of Gridley northern California were driving a Ford sedan en route to Nevada when another car side swiped them east of Hodge Monday afternoon. Mrs Watkins suffered facial injuries and was treated by Dr Graham in Barstow after being brought there by a San Bernardino party. Mr Watkins was not injured.
Edgar of San Francisco, returning from Las Vegas via Highway 91, leaned to read a road sign at Mountain Pass. His Cadillac hit an icy spot, skidded, struck a bank and rolled upright. He escaped uninjured, checked himself, then drove to Barstow where the car received two broken springs and dented fenders.

Henry Sandoz and Myrtle Ivy Halsted, both of Hickley, were married in Las Vegas Nevada on Saturday October 14. The couple exchanged vows with a modest ceremony with local officials present.
The Santa Fe signalmen announce a dance at Hinkley school auditorium Friday night November 27 and the Catholic Ladies hold a Barstow dance Thursday night November 26. About eighty men work on the new block signal system between Barstow and Mojave. An October 18 meeting at the Beacon Cafe pledged a Thanksgiving event with Thursby's four piece orchestra.
Victorville and Adelanto representatives visited the Helendale farm bureau meeting. 16 new members were added in the ongoing center membership drive. A. L. Campbell gave the principal speech and invitations were extended for farm bureau members to attend Victorville chamber meetings.
