About fifty subscribers and friends of Interstate Company attended the open house Monday afternoon to view the newly installed automatic telephone equipment. H A Van Loon superintendent from Bishop led the event with guests from Chicago and Los Angeles, plus local officials and installers guiding demonstrations. Long distance calls will be handled through the Victorville office with the Hotel Melrose providing the long distance pay station booth for day and night service from Barstow.

"Mother" Preston of Ludlow died recently in France after running a Ludlow store and saloon. She sold out to Murphy Brothers when France entered World War I and left for her homeland. Tax meeting over tax hike in Barstow district

Officials noted taxes are about 2.5 times last year due to newer buildings in the business district and questioned the district deputy’s valuation variances.
