Meeting on Natural Old Trail route improvement in LA

A Friday at 1 p.m. meeting in the Pacific Finance Building Los Angeles will discuss improving the National Old Trail route. Chairman Harvey Toy of the State Highway Commission and advisory members will join local representatives from Victorville San Bernardino Needles after notices were sent to each town.

Armistice Day Parade and Festivities in San Bernardino

Armistice Day activities center on San Bernardino with a morning parade, mass meeting at 11, a 2:30 p.m. football game between the local Legion team and the VU S S Oklahoma eleven, and an evening program at Pickering Park featuring fireworks vaudeville and dancing. Proceeds aid disabled veterans and Legion clubhouse funds. Local veterans manage all events and facilities.

Barstow buyers take over News Stand in Osdick

Bob Redfield and W A Bextel of Barstow purchase the News Stand from George Milovich and settle at home among Osdick friends. Osdick serves as the Anderson Stage lines headquarters. H G Nosser of Osdick leases the Santa Paula group to Chas Norman who sublets part to other mines. It is a gold and silver venture.

Zoy Prefers Death to Jail Sentence Near Needles

An unidentified boy refused jail, killed himself after a car theft near Needles while three accomplices fled. They had stolen a car from C. F. Elson of San Bernardino, lit the vehicle to avoid arrest, and a later attempted robbery of Louis Welch left him wounded in the hip. One youth surrendered to a posse, while others remained at large.

Halloween Dance by Silver Valley Club Praised

The Silver Valley Club hosted a Hallowe'en dance described as the best event of the season. The hall featured orange and black decor and top condition flooring. Wetenhall's Barstow orchestra provided excellent music and will perform again November 15 and November 29 at Jordan's Hall.

Noted Speaker to Address Barstow Woman's Club

Herbert Lapham will speak at Barstow Woman's Club next Wednesday evening November 12 on Science and Influencing Men in the Rome. He will draw a large audience, having represented Santa Fe in moving Barstow's business district. Program starts at eight with doors opening at 7:30 at the Barstow Auditorium.

Paving Contract Let For 7.10 Miles On Redlands-Beaumont Route

A paving contract for 7.10 miles of highway between the Sea Bernar ding county line and the Beaumont on the Redlands-Beaumont road will be let this month. T. W. Oglesby of Santa Ana submitted the low bid of 179,268.70, far below the engineers estimate of 248,422. The award is expected November 15 with work to begin immediately.

Musical program Sunday evening at Barstow Auditorium

Next Sunday at 7 30 pm Barstow Auditorium hosts a musical program followed by an Armistice address by Rev McRae. The Barstow Chamber of Commerce will meet Monday night at 7:45 in the Barstow Auditorium. A. A. True resigns as secretary, Ray F. O'Brien slated as next secretary. The fire protection committee will propose forming a fire district with a chemical engine. streets committee will report conditions and recommended action. A temporary secretary will serve until the next annual meeting. Only members in good standing may vote.

Supervisors Eye Tax for Court House Annex Project

The Board of Supervisors plans a 25 cent per hundred tax levy at Monday's meeting to fund a fireproof annex to the courthouse at about 250000 dollars. A 72,000 dollar fund was raised for a 32 by 110 foot records building south of the old courthouse. The plan also envisions a July 1925 levy of 25 cents to finance removing the old section and building a modern two story basement structure. Bonds failed to pass, forcing an immediate levy for improvements.

Religious Education Convention in Riverside Next Week

The Southern California Sunday School Council of Religious Education holds its Thirty-fifth Annual Convention Institute in Riverside on November 12 14. Speakers include W G Landes New York City and the Sunset Service on Mount Rubidoux. The program features a Tharmony Quartette performance and detailed conferences for Children Young People Adult and Administration divisions.

Congregational Notes Announces Attendance and Contests

Last Sunday Sunday School set a yearly high with 106 attendees. A Reds vs Blues contest boosted participation last year and a new member contest will award a victory treat. An Every Member Canvass is planned for December, with more details to follow. Everyone is invited to next Sunday evening's music program and Armistice Day address.
