Rain dampened the Halloween dance by Barstow’s Antler's Club as guests arrived in costumes from cowboys to blackface. Prizes were given for Halloween outfits to Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. Deskins, Warren Hill, and Lilia Duncan, with out of town guests from Ludlow including C. A. Whitlow and wife and others.

Competition for cows of county starts January first
The Farm Bureau will launch a cows only competition on January 1. E J Campbell assistant farm advisor announced eight monthly ribbons for the top cows and two cups annually. Awards cover best grade and pure bred cows and heifers monthly, top five in a herd, and best herd averages. Herds are split into over 80 and under 30 cows. Awards based on butterfat production.

Youths Steal Auto Then Are Captured
Dr A C Pratts automobile was taken Friday night by two boys aiming for San Bernardino. Dr Pratt and Murray Tripp pursued in a second car with a six shooter. The stolen car halted in the William addition. the youths fled. Tripp fired, one boy was wounded in the left lung. both assailants were identified as 15 year old residents of San Bernardino. The wounded boy was reported to be recovering.

Under G Jauslin's guidance the Barstow concert orchestra progresses rapidly playing at P T A movie nights. The seven member group includes Willett, Brassy, McClary, Wazner, Johnson, Thursby and Jauslin. Jauslin, Swiss born, later became a US citizen and has taught music for forty years. He volunteers two evenings weekly, homesteads near Barstow, and seeks to start a local orchestra.

Stolen Buick Recovered Near Oro Grande
A Buick six belonging to Ted ScoVill was stolen from in front of the Harvey House last week in the morning and recovered that afternoon near Oro Grande. One wheel broken and three tires ruined by running flat. The burglars were caught and are being held in the county jail.
