British aviators Hawker and Grieve saved after transatlantic crash
Capt Harry Hawker and Lt Grieve began from Newfoundland on Sunday May 18 and landed safely after their airship sank in the Atlantic. A Danish tramp steamer, lacking wireless, picked them up and a British naval vessel evacuated them to an English port. The crash stemmed from a radiator feed pipe blockage. The incident renews calls for mandatory wireless on ocean crossings.
