Saturday Out-Door Sports At Barstow Beach Meet
The Barstow Beach Saturday meet drew a fine crowd with sunny weather and proceeds from bean soup lemonade and ice cream selling by the High School Junior Red Cross totaling about 7. Boat races were led by The Resolute first owned by Jack Bryan and second also The Resolute owned by Harold Orner. Ocean Queen owned by Robert Gillett took third while The Liberty and Muriel owned by Miles McGuire and Jim Judgett trailed. In foot races Wilda Hill led the little girls with Berniece Soules and Dorothy McGuire following. First Class winners included Jack Bryan William Benedict and Robert Wheeler with Second Class winners Jack Hopkins Walter Richie and Miles McGuire. Fat Man's Race saw Elmore Hillislet and Harold Soules finish top spots with Harold Pett third. Junior Leland Stewart topped the meet with 15 points.

Miller, stationed as a musician with a second class rating, enjoyed a surprise reunion at Hotel Helrose after traveling from Los Angeles to San Diego and Barstow.
