Yermo dedicates first community church with regional guests

In Yermo a new Union Church edifice was dedicated under Pastor A. Layne. Speakers included E. Cunningham division superintendent of Union Pacific, J. Norris Las Vegas master mechanic, Al Stone railroad employee, and Rev. Reynolds known as the Sky-pilot. Mrs. Layne and Mrs. Reynolds are sisters. Sunrise service and 9:45 worship follow with an evening baptism program from 6:30 to 7:30. Rev. Layne is aided by his active wife.

Pioneer Engineer Near Death in Las Vegas Hospital

Ea Smith, one of the oldest Union Pacific engineers in service on the Los Angeles and Salt Lake line, and a longtime Clark County public figure, is dying in a Las Vegas hospital after a third stroke suffered Saturday morning.

Pheasants Protected Along Mojave River

K. K. Langford a Victorville special deputy for the fish and game commission reports many golden pheasants released along the Mojave River near Camp Cady. The area offers shade water and protection under law with severe punishment for killings. Langford notes recent prosecutions of mountain sheep poaching and mentions 80 Australian partridges planted at Rancho Verde hoping for growth under protection.

Salt Lake Attorney Injured in Auto Accident

A Salt Lake City attorney, W. Pischel, his wife, and Mrs. A M Bradley were injured when their Buick rolled over at Barstow near the passenger tracks while en route from Salt Lake City to Palo Alto to visit their son at Stanford. Mrs. Pischel suffered battery acid burns, Mr. Pischel a back injury, and Mrs. Bradley shock and gas exposure. They were treated by Dr John Graham and later continued their journey.

Surveying For New Transcontinental Live

The Pacific Telegraph and Telephone Company has a crew of fifteen men surveying for a transcontinental line. The project connects with the existing eastbound line from San Francisco and will extend through Newhall Palmdale Victorville Daggett Baker Las Vegas and Cedar City Utah, with Barstow connected as well. A direct Daggett to Victorville route via Stoddard Well is planned. A second line is being extended from Banning to Whitewater Amboy Needles and Kingman.

R. J. Mills Opens Barstow Store in Postal Telegraph Building

R J Mills, longtime operator of general merchandise stores in Oro Grande and Victorville, opens a Barstow shop this week in the Postal Telegraph building. He leased the premises and announced the venture in this week’s Printer. Mills is described as a progressive citizen active in his other communities.

Sixty five ladies attended the Barstow Woman's Club reciprocity day at the Nose Inn on Tuesday afternoon with guests from Hinkley Newberry Adelanto and Victorville. Redlands speaker Mrs Bunnell discussed current events and Barstow hostess Mrs C J Whicker spoke. A varied music program followed featuring James Beckwith Redondo two piano selections Mr Reeves Mormon missionary sax solo by Reginald Knaggs and Jimmy Weld. Refreshments of cake and coffee concluded the event. Next meeting set for April 5 with San Bernardino's Mrs Seaman as speaker.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lazenby visited Ramona hospital on Wednesday. He will donate a pint of blood for Mrs. Lazenby who is to undergo an operation within hours after the transfusion. Her ill health worsened after a fall from a back porch at the meat shop last year.
