Kiwanis Division Draws Record Crowd in Barstow

A large turnout at the Kiwanis Division No. 6 meeting in Barstow, held at the Grammar School Auditorium, featured speeches by Riverside and Las Vegas clubs, musical numbers, and a dinner by the Ladies Aid Society. The event, praised as the largest division gathering, included several discussions on interclub relations and education with multiple clubs represented and leaders thanked for flawless arrangements.

Inspectors from Western Air Express in Daggett this week arranged beacon light setup. The beacon tower will stand 100 feet south of the Beacon service station opposite the Inspection station.

Robbery at Service Station Near Town

J A Grey, running a service station 21 miles east, awoke Sunday morning to find two men stealing gasoline. He watched from his window and then tried to arm himself but the pair fled before he could confront them. He identified one name and warned that a check from "Shorty" could spare a warrant.

Harris Gets His Man at Helendale

Two Syrians, Alried and Mahmood, visited Barstow. Alried spent a day in jail accused by Mahmood of shoplifting and sought a ride to Victorville. Officer Ed Harris routed Alried in Helendale, recovering him to Barstow. Mahmood fled, immigration officials to pursue.

Bossard Loses Right Arm In Switchyard Accident

Switchman W H Bossard suffered a severe arm injury at 5 15 am when cars backed and pinched his right arm between couplings. Dr Graham amputated to the elbow, hospital care followed, and Bossard and his wife Mrs Bossard, notable in town for her Spanish class leadership, are reported recovering.

Mrs Kipphorn to be buried this week in Hollywood or Philadelphia

J J Kipphorn and Murry Young from Los Angeles visited Barstow this week. Mrs Kipphorn died last week at Community hospital in Riverside and her body lies at Pearce Brothers in Los Angeles awaiting her parents arrival from Philadelphia. Her parents Mr and Mrs L H Orr were due today. Burial location undecided between Hollywood cemetery or Philadelphia. Two year old John Jr. is in Fresno with relatives and Betty aged seven is in Los Angeles with Aunt Mrs A M Trowell.
