California state division of highways moves to relocate the National Old Trails route between Daggett and Lavie with $425000 from the gasoline tax fund. District Engineer K Q Sullivan says two location crews began surveys at Newberry and will oil and gravel desert roads east from Daggett. The project aims to shift to the south side of the Santa Fe right of way and remove curves and two grade crossings, with further work possible toward Lavie depending on preliminary surveys.
