Barstow Union High School reports a student body meeting endorsing a Peace League letter to President Wilson and urging high schools in California and other states to do likewise. Lockers are installed in multiple rooms, domestic science drapery hangings are completed, and new furnishings arrive for the girls’ room. A basketball game against Victor Valley UHS is set for March 29. A farmers’ meeting, a French music program, and various classroom attendance notes are listed, with illness and bus delays noted as causes of empty seats.

A letter to President Wilson from Barstow Union High School students expresses support for his World Conference vision and the creation of a League of Nations to resolve world peace issues. Signers include Mapore Henderson Byron Hit and Ciara Bell.
About 25 men are employed at Ord Mountain copper mines and camp expenses run $200 per day. Three shifts drive three tunnels into the mountain tapping copper veins two miles south of the old Ord camp. Autos shuttle workers to and from the site. Muckers earn $4.25 daily while machine drillers receive $5.25. No ore has been shipped yet.
The Pacific Electric Railway Company of Los Angeles asks the Railroad Commission for authority to raise local streetcar fares. The petition notes that despite recent rises in interurban and suburban passenger rates and freight charges, fixed charges and operating costs remain unmet due to higher wages, materials, equipment, and taxes. Bids are opened for a $1,000,000 marine building project to be built in San Diego.
Federal officials finalize papers transferring Santa Fe water system to Barstow Utility Co. The deal includes building a 250000 gallon reservoir on the hill, 60 pound pressure, a 6 inch main along Business Street, and a new well by June. Three pumps planned with electricity replacing steam. Santa Fe storage holds 300000 gallons. current use is about 500000 gallons daily.
Congress adopted relief measures for manganese chrome pyrite and tungsten miners at the War Industries Board request. The Interior Secretary will decide just payments for investments or obligations made between April 6, 1917 and November 12, 1918 to aid wartime production. No speculative investments recognized. Claims due to Interior Secretary by June 3, 1919.
The Bureau of Markets issues monthly reports on wholesale and retail milk prices across 100 plus cities in 43 states. February retail bottle milk ranges 11 to 20 cents per quart, with common prices 14 and 15 cents. Producer prices per quart in U S city range 6.4 to 12.7 cents, most between 7 and 9 cents. The dealers spread for 3.5 percent milk in retail trade runs from 4.4 to 11.5 cents per quart, and Barstow retail milk is 15 cents per quart.
