Burke Uninjured After Studebaker Wreck West of Town

Ed Burke proprietor of the Tourist Garage escaped injury when his Studebaker blew a tire at high speed west of town Monday. The car was hurled to the roadside, bumped a bank of cath, and flipped over. The windshield and most windows shattered, but Burke remained uninjured. The car suffered severe body damage.

Posters in Barstow indicate the trans continental foot race will start in Los Angeles on Saturday March 3. Early schedules listed El Monte and San Bernardino as first night stops but later notices name Puente as the opening stop with Colton following.

Freight wreck at Trojan blocks traffic near Bagdad

A Santa Fe freight derailed Wednesday morning at Trojan four miles west of Bagdad. Twenty four cars left the rails blocking both tracks after a broken axle on a downhill spread. Engineer J. O. Paulson. all railroad traffic halted for the day.

Mrs Chapin Returns After Seven Week East Visit

Power line extension to Yermo planned from Barstow

The Southern Sierras will build an 18 mile 35000 volt extension from Barstow to Yermo via Daggett with a projected cost of about 32000 dollars. The line will serve Daggett and Yermo, cross the Mojave River, support mining and agricultural growth, and include a 400 HP substation at Yermo. The move aims to aid Mojave River Valley development and reduce Union Pacific shop power costs.

Arrive in Barstow with New Aeroplane

Fulton Slaton and Lieut Jonas returned from Texas with a new aeroplane after testing three engines. The engine is being overhauled at Central Garage. The plane will head to Death Valley at month end on a merchant expedition, kept at the field north of town. A second field is reported by Chas Williams in his addition south of Willett Camp.

Mrs Honey Buried At Mountain View Cemetery

After months of illness with cancer Mrs Mamie Honey died Friday night. She had lived in Barstow sixteen years and was the widow of James Honey aged fifty five. Funeral services were at the Antler Club with Rev McRae officiating and she was interred at Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino. Four children Laura Lottie James and Claude James Whatley survive.
